The Alpha King's Mind Reading Maid (Cecilia) novel Chapter 287

Chapter 287

cilia’s POV

“Cecilia.”

I heard my name, stopping me just as I walked out of the hospital unit. I froze in my place, internally cursing myself for not using another door. Not that I could predict Leopold would spot me. Then again… Sophia was here. So, I probably should have at least guessed.

I slowly turned to face him, my shoulders squared and my eyes never wavering as I met his eyes.

“Your Majesty, what can I do for you?” I asked, keeping my voice as calm as possible.

He pressed his lips together.

“Cut the crap, Cecilia,” he said, his eyes darkening. “What are you doing here?”

“I don’t see why that’s any of your business,” I told him, folding my arms across my chest.

Before I could think, Leopold had me pressed against the wall; the force of it nearly knocking the wind out of me. My heart jumped into my throat, and my eyes had gone wide. He was breathing heavily, and I could feel the rapid flow of emotions radiating off him.

“Do I need to remind you that you are my concubine,” he said, his tone low and deep, sending a warmth like no other through my entire body.

An electric current spread between us, nearly zapping me into submission.

I had to gain distance between us before I completely lost control and had sex with him right here and now. Why did he have such an effect on my body like this?

I shoved him off me, my eyes narrowing.

“And do I need to remind you that you already agreed to set me free after the wedding?” I asked him in return, keeping my eyes on his. “Are you going back on your word?”

“I don’t go back on my word,” he said through his teeth. “But until the wedding takes place, you are still mine.”

The word, “mine,” echoed between us and I found myself getting dizzy. I blinked, wondering what that strange feeling was. It seemed as if he was also questioning his choice of words because he faltered for a moment.

“You know what I mean,” I murmured, stepping away from me. “Just tell me why you’re here.”

He sounded a little defeated, and I almost felt guilty for lying to him. But it’s not like he was leaving me with any other choice. I couldn’t tell him that I was pregnant. He would never let me go if he knew the truth. He would either force me to stay here and be a witness to his marriage with Sophia… or he would take my baby away and raise it with Sophia.

That second thought made me sick to my stomach.

Or worse. He would try to kill my baby before I ever gave birth to keep from having a bastard child.

I swallowed the lump in my throat.

“I wasn’t feeling well,” I told him. “I was only coming to see Victoria for some herbs.”

His brows furrowed.

“Why do you need to return here later?” He asked.

follow-up. She wants to see if the herbs are working,” I explained, lifting my shoulders. “It’s a common practice, Your Majesty. There’s nothing more to it. You don’t need to worry about why I’m here. You should be worried about why you’re here.”

I moved my head in the direction of Sophia’s unit and looked back up at him.

“I’m sure your mate is questioning where you had run off to.”

He opened his mouth like he was about to say something, but he closed it quickly.

“If you aren’t feeling well… then you should rest,” he said through his teeth.

The way he said it, I wasn’t even sure if he believed me. But I smiled sweetly at him.

“You’re right. I’ll get on that, Your Majesty. Thank you for your concern,” I told him, the sarcasm oozing out of my words.

Just as I started to walk away from him, I felt his hand grip my arm, halting me in place. It wasn’t enough to hurt, but it was enough to leave a statement. He whipped me around to face him, his eyes practically black.

“Do not forget who I am,” he said, his tone deepening. “I am still your King.”

The force of his tone made me shudder.
