“Cecilia,” he said; my name came out of his mouth all rough, and it made my heart stutter in my chest. “Tell me what’s going on.”

I pressed my lips together; I couldn’t tell him the truth… could I?

Warren had been nothing but kind to me… and I was awful to him. The things I had said to him… the back and forth between us. The way he kissed me… and touched me. The memories of last night flooded my mind and my

He was gone this morning, but it wasn’t because of Warren… it was Leopold’s choice. If it were up to Warren… he would never leave my side.

I swallowed and looked away from him. I couldn’t lie to him… not again at least.

“Truth…” Lora whispered; I hadn’t even realized she had surfaced.

She always seemed to be around when Warren and Leopold were near. I had no idea what that meant… but I knew one thing for sure… she trusted them. Both of them.

“I’ll tell you,” I finally said, looking up at Warren’s curious and worried eyes. “But not here.”

“Your room,” he told me, as if he could read my thoughts.

I nodded, knowing it was safer if we went back to my room to speak. At least I would know nobody was lurking around the corner, listening.

Without thought, he offered me his arm. I looked at it as if I was worried it might shift and attack me. But when I saw the sincerity in his eyes, I let myself breathe and take hold of his arm.

He escorted me back down the stairs and towards my room. Once we were inside, he released my arm and shut the door behind us, latching the lock in place.

“Tell me what’s going on, Cecilia,” he finally said, his eyes boring into mine.

“I was going to spy on Alpha William and Luna Diana,” I confessed, my cheeks heating as I spoke those words out

loud.

“What?” He asked, his brows pinching together as confusion washed over him. “Why do that?”

“Because they know information about my mother that they aren’t saying,” I blurted, tears burning in my eyes. My mother died when I was born. And Diana was the last to speak to her before she passed. Alpha William told me she died due to excessive bleeding. But think there’s more to it.” 2

He raised his brows at that moment, studying my face.

“And why do you think they know information about your mother? Why would they keep this from you?”

“Because they had an affair,” I told him, my voice coming out raspy with suppressed emotions.

“Alpha William and your mother?”

I pressed my lips together, my eyes stinging with unshed tears. I couldn’t look at him as the truth surfaced.

“Tell me,” he said, urging me to continue; his voice filled with serenity.
