Chapter 266
But this was temporary… I knew it, and he knew it.
That was the last thought that invaded my mind just as he hammered into me, allowing me to chase the orgasm that teetered on the edge for so long.
It was explosive and exactly what my body needed as I came undone, falling apart around him. It didn’t take long for his own orgasm to take course, and he followed me over the edge. I didn’t panic about him not pulling out or his release oozing out of me as he continued to slam into me. I was already pregnant, so there wasn’t much more that could have happened.
When he was finished, we were both panting messes. He slowly pulled out of me, and I whimpered from the loss of him. But I didn’t feel alone because just as soon as he was climbing off me, he was wrapping me back in his arms and pulling me against him, so I was practically sprawled on top of him, tucked beneath his chin.
By the time morning came, I woke up alone in bed. I shouldn’t have been surprised… in fact, I wasn’t. The side of the bed he was on was cold, and only the faint smell of him remained, so I knew he had been gone for a while.
Leopold must have taken control back and left early this morning.
It was for the best; I knew what this was. It was our last time before he married another, and I was to leave this palace for good. I placed my hand over my belly, my fingers trembling slightly as tears filled my eyes, a sign that I’m not as strong as I pretended to be.
I only knew of this baby for a short time, but I knew with certainty that I would do anything to protect it. Even if that meant leaving behind the man my body and soul both craved desperately.
A faint knock sounded on the door, and I slipped out of bed, grabbing a robe that hung nearby. Once I was covered, I went to the door, my legs still trembling from last night. I’m sure I looked like a mess, and I probably carried the lingering scent of Leopold on my skin, but I wasn’t really thinking about it when I pulled the door open.
I froze when I saw Landon standing there, a frown marring his lips when he took me in.
A look crossed his eyes that I didn’t recognize; maybe it was pity. It made my heart crack slightly, but I forced the feeling down and smiled.
“Landon,” I greeted. “Is everything alright?”
“Sorry to bother you so early, Cecilia,” he said, nodding at the large box he was holding; a box I hadn’t even noticed until he focused his attention on it. “But the King asked me to bring this to you.”
I frowned and took it from him.
“Thanks,” I said softly as I stepped back into my room.
He didn’t wait around or say anything else before he turned and walked away. I let the door shut between us.
I set the box down, my fingers trembling as I peeled the sides where the tape lay, and once the box was opened, my breath hitched.
It was a matching dress; a replacement for the one I had ruined in the woods last night. On top of it lay a note, and when I unfolded the pages of the note, my heart shattered in an instant.
After the wedding, you’ll be free to go.
