After what Leopold had said to me earlier, it seemed strange to receive this now. Why would he warn me against thinking myself a concubine, only to now give me this ointment for concubines?

The slave didn’t wait for me to figure it out. She wordlessly turned and skittered away from fry door.

Thank you,I said to the slave. She looked at me blankly, before turning to go without another word.

Not daring to delay and disobey the Alpha King, I hastily applied the ointment, pouring a generous amount onto my hands before rubbing it in. I sniffed and then winced. The ointment gave off a strong odor.

The ointment must have truly been effective for Leopold to tolerate such a smell on his concubines.

treated my wound, bandaging it this time, and hurried to find him again. After applying the ointment, I bandaged the wounds as

best I could.

When I returned to the office, Leopold was working. Sitting at his desk, he was hunched over, examining some papers on the desktop.

I stood like a shadow in the doorway, unsure whether to come or go.

Though it was more than just where I should stand that was troubling me,

Now that I was a concubine, what would Leopold want with me? He hadn’t showed any interest in me so far. Surely he wouldn’t try to sleep with me?

But I wasn’t sure, and that uncertainty made me nervous.

I watched Leopold’s face, wondering what he could be thinking, or what he might think of me.

Suddenly, his face shifted, scrunching in disgust.

Warren’s voice shouted in my mind, What is that disgusting smell on the woman?! I will kill her!

I looked down at my bandaged hands. Sniffing gently, I detected the faint floral scent coming from the ointment underneath.

Could it beDid Warren hate the scent of irises?

I started to turn, deciding to wash my hands, removing the smell, and then come back.

A pair of hands shoved me from behind, pushing me down to the floor in the office. I hid the ground with a thud, 1

Leopold looked up, seeing me. His eyes weren’t right though. His gaze was wild, a predator locking onto a prey.

Warren shouted, That smell! So disgusting! Must kill!

Thinking quickly, I grabbed the bandages and tore them away. Digging into my palms, I cut open my recently closed wounds. The smell of fresh blood overwhelmed all else, overpowering the floral scent by far so that it was practically not existent.

Leopold blinked as his nostrils flared. He blinked a few times, seemingly coming back to himself.

I scrambled to my feet, though only managed to get to my knees. I tore my wounds, your Highness. I will clean them and return. Please excuse me.

Wait,he said.

I froze, frightened of displeasing him.

As he seemed to return to himself, he frowned at me. Why are you on the floor?

I tripped,I said. And my wound came open. But I will take care of it and

My voice trailed away as he stopped listening. He opened a drawer of his desk and retrieved a jar. This was prescribed by doctor the last time I cut myself. He stood and walked toward me. I was still on the ground when he held out the jar for me. You can use it.

I blinked, surprised. You already gave me some ointment. Earlier. You had it sent to my room?

The longer I talked, the more I was uncertain. After all, why would Leopold give me something that he so clearly disliked, only to order me to use it and then see him?

I did no such thing,he said flatly, confirming my suspicions.

Of course he wouldn’t. That didn’t make sense. But if he didn’t send me that ointment, who did?

Take it,Leopold said impatiently, snapping me out of my curious thoughts.
