Now it was her turn to laugh

“You don’t say?” She asked, though I could hear the sarcasm in her tone as if she already had me figured out. “Well, lucky for you… I’m not a fan of a proper gentleman. But your mate might think differently.”

At that point, the door opened, preventing me from being able to respond to her. Was she flirting with me?

I had questions, but I couldn’t exactly ask them as Landon stood in front of us. It took a lot for me not to bark at him to leave. But if I did that, he would know something was up.

“Sorry to interrupt, but I came to remind you of the meeting you have with one of the ‘Alphas attending the ceremony.”

I let out a breath. This wasn’t the first Alpha who had come to be before the ceremony to talk up his daughter. They think that if I get to know them first, I’m most likely to choose their daughter. But that’s not what’s going to happen. I’m aiming to find my mate, and if I don’t find one… I’m choosing any of the Alpha’s daughters. I will be choosing one of my concubines.

My mind immediately went to Cecilia before I crushed the thought. She was an Omega… It’s not like I could choose her, though it seemed my mind and body didn’t get that memo.

I turned to Cecilia, who was still watching us, her cheeks rosy from our encounter a moment ago.

“Forgive me, but I will need to end our lessons short today,” I tell her. “But we will continue where we left off in the morning. I would also like to teach you combat skills.”

She raised her brows.

“Combat?”

I nodded.

“Everyone needs to learn to defend themselves so that what happened to you the other day won’t happen again,” I tell her. ” Especially with the threat still out there.

She swallowed, but she gave me a short nod.

“Understood,” she said, her eyes never leaving mine.

It took a lot, but I finally pulled my gaze away from hers before I turned to Landon, nodding at him to lead the way. I followed him out of the parlor, still feeling Cecilia’s eyes on the back of my head. It took everything not to turn around to look at her one last time. But I was sure that if I had, I probably wouldn’t have gone with Landon.

“You need to tread lightly, Your Majesty,” Landon surprised me by saying, his tone kept low.

“What are you talking about?” I asked, pretending I didn’t know, but I knew exactly what he was talking about.

Landon knew this, too, because he raised his brows at me.

“Your relationship with Cecilia. It seems to be growing. You were never like this before… but now every time I turn around, it seems you are all over her.”

“I am not all over her,” I said, my defense rising. “I’m training her.”

“Yes… But the way you were looking at her before I interrupted… it didn’t look like just training. And the obvious flirting… It’s not a good idea to start something you cannot finish. That’s all I’m saying.”

“I’m not starting anything,” I tell him, suddenly very annoyed.

Landon let out a breath.

“I’ve known you for your entire life, Sire. I know what you’re like when you are around someone you fancy, and I can tell that
