Chapter 108

Cecilia’s POV

I knew it the moment Warren released his control and returned it to King Leopold. Warren often had a lost look in his eyes, along with a lot of excitement. But Leopold was more controlled, and his gaze always appeared sharper and darker.

While Warren was whimpering for his mother not to die, my heart had broken for him. He had reverted to his 5-year-old self. Of course, at that age, a wolf isn’t fully established yet, so they can’t exactly communicate with their human counterparts. But they can still feel emotions and see through their humans’ eyes.

The loss of his mother wasn’t just hard on the King; it was hard on Warren, too. I didn’t know much about Queen Elenora, other than the fact that she was a take-charge kind of woman and got a lot of things done on the King’s behalf. A lot of people loved her; at least those who knew her did.

She was a very private person and was rarely seen outside the palace gates.

It was a long-standing mystery about how she died, but word of her death traveled around the world at lightning speed.

I couldn’t imagine what it must have been like for Warren to go through that and not be able to communicate his pain. Or what Leopold must have gone through losing his mother at a young age and never having that connection with his wolf for all of

these years.

My heart ached for both the man and the beast while I saw him whimpering and crying for his mother, who had long passed.

The feeling was so forceful that I found myself dropping to my knees, pretty much on his lap, as I wrapped iny arms around his waist and pressed my face against his chest. I’m not sure what compelled me to do this, but I knew I needed him to return to me. I needed Warren to let go of his control.

“Your Majesty?” I tried to call the King to try to get him to take control back.

His body was tense, and he had grown so quiet that I thought he might have fallen asleep. But when I felt him take a large intake of breath and his murmur as he spoke my name, I knew it was Leopold and not Warren.

I sat in my room, thinking about those events from last night. How Warren cried in my arms… how he released his control over Leopold, and that Leopold didn’t push me away the moment he came back. The concern he had over the bite mark on my arms and whether I was rested enough after the attack.

The attack itself.

Everything was just so overwhelming, and those were the thoughts that carried me through the night. I barely slept a single

wink.

By the time the sun blessed me with its presence, I felt like a complete zombie. I sat up in bed, my hair all over the place, and my eyes worn and tired. I don’t think I have ever felt this crappy in the morning in my life.

A knock on the door drew my attention.

“Yes?” I said, my voice coming out hoarse.

“Are you decent, Miss Cecilia?” One of the maids, I think her name was Charlene, said. “We have your breakfast, and we’d like to do another check of your injuries. The King mentioned biting you last night, and we wanted to make sure it hadn’t gotten infected.”

I stared down at the bite mark; I was kind of surprised it hadn’t healed already. I was a known fast healer in my pack.

“Uh, yeah. You can come in,” I said, trying to clear my head.

The door opened, and Charlene poked her head in. When her eyes found mine, her expression softened, and she smiled as she stepped into the room, Abby in tow.

“Good morning, Miss Cecilia,” Abby said, curtsying slightly as she brought one of the trays of what looked like healthy options to the table across the room.

Charlene held her bag of medical supplies as she made her way towards me.

“You shouldn’t be out of bed. You are still healing, even if it doesn’t look like it,” she told me.

She went to check my back, but then froze when she saw the bite on my arm.

“Oh, my,” she said. “I’ll have to clean that wound and bandage it.”

Abby looked over from the table she was setting up with my breakfast.
