Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 88

Chapter 88

Lillian’s POV

I’d hoped I could depend on Josephine’s assistance with the event planning. As a true princess, she likely had tons of experience attending events and planning them. She would know all the elements required for success.

Yet, before I could call on her, she was called away on a campaign of goodwill, traveling across the kingdom to meet and mingle with the people.

Clara explained, “The royals do that sometimes. It’s supposed to boost morale with the common people. Josie is so likeable, they make her go a lot.”

She was likeable, and I could see how the people would like her. But the timing was unfortunate.

“I’m not a princess,” Clara said. “But I’ll try to help as much as I can. I’ve never planned an event, but I’ve / attended a bunch. I remember everything Ophelia complained about, and that was a lot.”

As I had been basically shunned from the rest of the court, Clara and I were taking tea alone in one of the sitting rooms. Her primary servant was attending us, since it wasn’t just the court members who had been avoiding me. Even the palace servants were acting as if I carried some kind of plague. All were afraid to get too close, like my bad luck and reputation would rub off. Fortunately, Clara didn’t seem to care.

I was glad to have a friend.

“You’ll need a venue,” Clara said. “The size depends on how many people you want to invite. I’m sure there’s a room in the palace that will suit your needs. Were you planning on a tea party?”

“Or a brunch,” I said, as those were the most numerous of the events I had attended when I’d actually been invited. “Or I could do a dinner…”

“Oh, don’t do that,” Clara said. “If you have a proper meal, you will have to invite the men, and that’s beyond what the Queen asked you to do. A tea or a brunch, or some other activity that isn’t a meal.”

“Okay,” I said. “Thank you. I’d surely mess up without your guidance.”

“You could talk to Grayson…?” Clara asked.

I hung my head. “I’m on my own in this.”

“Oh.”

That single small utterance spoke volumes, and I felt every inch.

Clara continued with haste, likely seeing my hurt. “You will also need supplies, a team of servants, and if brunch or tea, a cook or pastry chef. We should speak to the Head Maid. She organizes all of those things. She will be able to help you with what’s available.”

“Okay,” I said. “You’ll go with me?”

Clara nodded. “No one is usually left to do these things alone. The Queen has a team to assist her. Even Ophelia had her assistants and then us of course, her ‘friends.””

“Thank you,” I said. “I don’t know how Ophelia saw you, but you are a friend to me.”

Clara smiled.

After tea, we went together to seek out the Head Maid. She was in her small office, just inside the kitchen. She

stood when she saw us.

“My ladies. Are you lost, to be back here?”

“No,” I said.

“The Luna Princess is planning an event, to establish her title,” Clara said, and I was relieved she was taking the leave. I would have no idea what to say. “We need to see which rooms are available and start making the plans!”

The Head Maid glanced back at her desk where her calendar was, but she didn’t reach for it before telling us,” There are no rooms available.”

Clara and I looked at each other.

Then I said, “We didn’t even tell you the date yet…”

“I assume it’s coming up? All rooms are booked for the next three months.”
