Chapter 64
Lillian’s POV
Slowly, I started to stir into wakefulness, though at first, I was sure that I must have still been dreaming. I was so unbelievable peaceful and warm, relaxed. How could that be? I had never been this calm in my entire life.
Had I died and gone to the Goddess’s side in the afterlife?
Gradually, the ache of my strained muscles ruined any dreams of heaven. I felt as if I had run a marathon last night, but how could that be? I went to the ball and then –
My eyes snapped open.
Grayson was sitting on a chair at his desk, shifted entirely away from me so that I could only see his back.
As I started to sit up, questioning the memories that were flooding through me, the blankets fell, pooling at my lap, revealing my bare breasts.
Gasping, I realized I was naked. At once, I grabbed the blankets and pulled them up around me, hiding my nakedness.
If I was naked, that meant…
Memories of Grayson with his face buried between my thighs, his tongue doing wicked things, sent fresh heat through my entire body. Even as mortified with embarrassment that the memory gave me, it equally filled me with desire.
Everything he had done last night had felt so wonderful. I felt like I had become a different person, one lost entirely to pleasure and lust – and I’d loved it.
This was so much worse than when he had touched me to completion. Then, he had gifted his hand and I’d rubbed myself to completion. This time, he had been an active participant, bringing my body pleasures I hadn’t even known I’d been capable of experiencing.
Not just once, but twice, and then once more with his fingers.
Goddess, I’d been so wanton, so unlike me. What he must think of me, to have come to him, to have begged him so desperately. And he’d…
Another gasp escaped me, as I lifted one my hands to the back of my neck, feeling the raised ridges and bumps of a scar marred onto my skin. Grayson’s bite.
Then I couldn’t breathe, my emotions overwhelming me. It was as if I felt everything all at once. Embarrassment, fear, satisfaction, pleasure. Everything turned so quickly, moving from one extreme to the next, that I couldn’t fully take hold of any one emotion.
I had no idea how to feel. How I should feel.
But, soon, one thought rose with prominence above everything else: What did this mean for us now?
Being marked was a huge deal, and would change everything. We were officially mates now, and that couldn’t be so easily undone.
But Grayson was supposed to be in a coma, and a comatose man wouldn’t be able to mark anyone.
Marking me had put him at risk.

With the nose I’d been making, he must have known that I was awake. I asked, “Why did you mark me?”
“Would you rather I have let you die?” he asked in reply.
“No, but I… if anyone sees…”
“Wear a scarf,” he said. “Do not let anyone see.”
I swallowed hard, pushing down the rising feeling of hurt at the coldness of his tone. Compared to last night, this was an entirely different person.
He turned his chair so that he was facing me now. His gaze brought a second wave of hurt, his eyes like ice.
“Tell me everything that happened last night before you came to this room in the state you did
My cheeks flushed, and I knew I was blushing again. His distance was making the embarrassment worse, and I felt shame for how wanton I had been. I clutched the blankets more tightly against me.
His brows lowered with clear annoyance. “The guard assigned to protect you removed your sister. When he returned to the ballroom, you were gone.”
“I went outside for air,” I said. “But then a servant approached me. She said the Queen wanted to speak with me. I was supposed to be pregnant by the ball. I thought… I expected to be scolded. The servant led me away from the party…”
“You didn’t suspect anything strange?”
“I did,” I insisted, “But I thought the Queen would want to have this conversation in private. It wasn’t until… until we reached the garden shed, that I was sure something was wrong.”
I glanced at my arm, remembering how I had hurt it, and was surprised to find it carefully treated and bandaged. Who had done this…? In my heart, I knew it could have only been one man, the same man here in the room with
me now.
