Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Lillian’s POV

With Grayson’s permission, I left his room to go to where Ronan was receiving medical care. I hadn’t meant to hurry, but the closer I came to where I knew Ronan was, the more excitement flooded through me, and I couldn’t hold back.

I ran, finally making it to Ronan’s room just as the doctor was leaving. He looked at me, then quickly stepped out of the way, wordlessly giving me fight to entry. I rushed inside.

Ronan was on a hospital bed, looking pale, with a bandage over his nose and around his arms. There was likely more damage, hidden beneath his hospital gown and the blankets over his legs. My heart ached at the sight of him, but inhaled deeply, trying to calm my emotions before they could overwhelm me.

Thanks to Grayson, Ronan was here. He was alive and he was safe. He would never be hurt like he had been, not by Calvin. Not by anyone. From now on, I would personally see to that.

“Lily?” Ronan asked, his voice small.

“It’s me,” I said, moving forward. I came closer to the bed and he looked up at me. Gods, he was so weak, he could barely lift his head from the pillow. Even with his bed lifted, he had trouble meeting my gaze for long, his eyelids seemingly so heavily.

“Sister,” Ronan said, and in that moment, seemed to rouse. He pushed himself forward to wrap his arms around me and hug me. I wrapped my own arms around his shoulders and held him tightly.

For a long moment, we stayed just like that, holding each other. There were so many things I wanted to say, so many apologies I wanted to make, but to do so would mean bringing up the past, and I would rather carrying the burden of guilt my entire life than drag Ronan back into memories that might harm him.

Instead, I settled on, “You are safe now. No one is going to ever harm you ever again.”

He started crying, and I held on tighter, until his hold started to loosen and his body went somewhat slack. Then, gently, I lowered him back down to the bed.

His eyes were hooded again, his strength leaving him. “Dad… told me to go with Calvin. He said… Calvin would bring me to you…”

I held in a sob. “I’m here now.”

“Calvin hurt me. He hit me. He said… that was the only way for you to come back…”

A lump rose in my throat. “Ronan… I’m so sorry.”

He blinked a few times, then tried to look up at me again. “Tell me what it’s like here. Is it nice?”

I couldn’t tell him the full truth, especially now that this place was going to be his home. I wouldn’t experience the same hardships I had, so there was no need to worry him. Compared to where he had come from, this place would feel like the home of the Goddess.

No one would beat him. No one would hurt him.

“The food is delicious,” I told him. “You are going to love it. The cook here is much more talented than the one back home.”

“Do they make good sweets? I like sweets.”

“The best sweets,” I said. “Wait until you try some of the cookies and cakes. And the pie! Delicious.”

“I like pie.”

“I know you do,” I said. “The beds are comfortable, and the servants are nice. We’ll have to see about getting you a tutor so you can continue your schooling.”

Ronan stuck out his tongue. “I hate school.”

“It’s good for you,” I said, smiling a little. “You need to learn about the world.”

“I know enough.”

My smile turned fond. “We can talk about that another time. For now, you need rest.”
