Chapter 129

Lily’s POV

The assassin ducked at the last moment, and Grayson went flying over his head. Not to be outdone, though, Grayson pushed off the bars of the cell opposite his, and jumped back at the assassin, this time catching him by the arm.

Teeth sank into flesh, and from one moment to the next, the assassin’s arm detached from his body and flung down the hallway.

The man started screaming, but only for a moment, before Grayson tore out his throat, killing him instantly.

“Grayson,” I whispered, shocked by the violence that had just unfolded in front of me. Yet, as much as I trembled with awe at the beautiful and brutal carnage Grayson was capable of, I was also relieved. If the assassin was dead, he couldn’t hurt Grayson anymore.

Grayson shifted back into human form at once and started to drag the assassin back into his cell. Then he went for the arm and returned with it. He positioned the dead attacker on the coat, facing away from the door, so that it looked like he was sleeping.

Grayson grabbed the servant’s clothes I had handed him that were now on the floor. At once, he pulled his shirt off over his head.

A hot blush burned my cheeks as I saw the miles of bare skin on display. What was wrong with me? So close to a dead body? After I had just seen him kill someone? My lust for Grayson was uncanny. At once, to help control myself, I swiveled on my heel, facing away from him.

“Y-you changed your mind?” I asked, desperate to change the subject, but I was also curious. If he was changing, then did that mean he was planning on going through with the escape after all?

I knew it was a hit to his pride to want to leave, but if this assassin came, then surely there would be others. Calvin would not be deterred just by the death of one hired assassin, especially if that death meant that he didn’t have to pay that man’s requested f*e anymore.

He’d just keep posting that f*e forward, tempting more assassin’s until either Grayson finally wore down or slept or somehow let his guard down. Then Calvin would have what he wanted and only have to pay once.

“Calvin is more desperate than I thought,” Grayson said. “He’ll keep sending assassins, which is fine, frankly. I’ll kill whoever he sends. But eventually, he will stop targeting me and switch to you to get to me. If I’m in here, I can’t protect you.”

Clothes shuffled, and I tried very hard not to picture Grayson naked as he changed.

Relief. That was what I should be feeling. Grayson had agreed to come with me, and that wasn’t nothing. He would be safe. We could figure out the rest later.

“I’m ready,” Grayson said, coming to my side. He wore the clothes of a servant, but just like when he had pretended to be a commoner, his nobility still shown through. He had a natural powerful aura that was just impossible to shut off. I really hoped that Ivory was right, that no one looked too closely at servants.

Grayson would need that now more than ever if he wanted to get out of here without immediately giving himself

away.

“I’ve been told that servant’s always keep their heads down, and their gazes on the ground. Making eye contact is suspicious. So long as we don’t draw attention to ourselves, we should make it through,” I said.

He nodded. “I’d rather not have to hurt any of my soldiers to get away.”

“Right,” I agreed.

We met up with the other servants near the crossroads of hallways. They immediately looked at Grayson, who remained silent but nodded at them. I hoped they could see the same appreciation in his eyes that I could. From the way they straightened and beamed, I believed that they could.

“Straight faces everyone,” Ivory said. “This was the easy part. Getting them out is the hard part.”

“No problem,” one of the servants said. She batted her eyelashes. “Let me go first. Hank is on the door, and hes always had eyes for me. I’ll keep him occupied while the rest of you sneak out.”

True to her word, the servant went first. She was only there for a few moments when the others waved us ahead As we passed through the door, the servant was lip-locked with the guard, pulling him against the wall, his back turned to us.

Ivory waved for us to hurry, so we did. Quickly we went up the stairs and out of sight for the guard.

“We’ll go to the servants’ entrance,” Ivory said. “There’s always a laundry delivery at this time. I’m friends with the driver. He’s loyal to the Prince. He’ll sneak you out, I just know it.”

“Thank you, Ivory,” I said, incredibly grateful for her help, and the help of all the servants.

We followed her to the servants’ entrance. Many of the other servants looked at us, one even walked straight into a wall, but no one said a word. We went outside, where the laundry truck was unloading. Ivory quickly spoke with the driver, who then waved us forward. We hid in the back of the truck while the driver went through the checkpoints.

No one even stopped us, and before we knew it, we were outside of the palace walls.

“You can come out,” said the driver. “We’re clear now.”

Grayson and I pushed away some old towels from on top of us and sat up.

“Where to?” the driver asked. “Do you know where you are headed?”

Oh, Gods. I’d only thought about getting Grayson out. I hadn’t thought at all about where we would go after this point.

I looked at Grayson, unsure, only to see his confident expression.

“Rosegold Estate,” he said.

I blinked. Even I had heard of Rosegold Estate, mostly because the owner was shrouded in mystery. No one knew the identity of the owner, as he was rumored to be a recluse but wealthy gentleman.

“Yes, Sir,” the driver said.

Grayson caught my look. “Don’t worry about it.”

“Do you know the owner?” I asked.

“Yes,” I said.

“He’s trustworthy?”

Grayson lifted a brow. “If he wasn’t?”

“I didn’t break you out of prison just to see you back in danger,” I said.

Grayson didn’t smile, but his mouth softened a little like he was only a moment away from it.

“You don’t have to worry,” he said. “I promise that we will be safe there.”

I stayed quiet as the driver took us across town and then through the gates of the estate. I couldn’t really see much from the back of the truck, but the driveway was long and surrounded by tall pine trees that blocked most of the

view.

We stopped near the front doors and the driver let us out of the back. We thanked him; rounded the truck, and walked right to the front door.

“Grayson… shouldn’t we knock?” I asked nervously, as he opened the door and went inside without a word.

I hurriedly followed him, then stopped.

Prime Beta was here, standing not too far from the foyer, going through a stack of mail. He looked up and over. Seeing Grayson, he didn’t look surprised.

yet.”

“You are early,” Beta said. “I wasn’t expecting you yet.
