Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 123

Chapter 123

Lillian’s POV

Grayson’s lips coaxed mine open, and his tongue swiped into my mouth. At once, my body relaxed. I curled my arms around his neck, combing my fingers through his hair.

He kissed me like a man lost in the desert, finally finding an oasis, drinking deeply.

When we broke for breath, I could barely find my voice. “What was that for?”

“You’ve been brave,” Grayson said. “You’ve impressed me.”

The words lifted me, filling me with pride. “Grayson,” I said, the word filled with all the emotion in my heart.

He leaned in again and captured my mouth with his own. This time, clinging to him, I gave as good as I got, chasing his tongue with mine. I shifted beneath him, trying to make space for us both. As I did, I felt his dick hardening against my thigh. Curiously, I nudged against it.

He growled against my mouth. “You like playing with fire.”

“I…” Words failed me. I had no idea how to excuse what I had just done.

Lifting his head, he looked down at me. I had no idea what he could see. Could he sense my lust, the root of my desire? But did he also see my hesitation?

Grayson was my mate. I wanted him as sure as anything, but how much of that want was my own? How much was the pull of our bond?

I had wanted to save myself until I found my perfect match. Did I still feel that way?

I didn’t know, and that was frustrating. My brows pulled together and I hated myself a moment.

Grayson must have seen that too.

He lowered his face to my neck for a moment and breathed deeply. Then, without warning, he flipped us again so I was once more resting on his chest, my head right over his heart that I could have sworn was beating faster than it had before.

“Sleep,” he said and closed his own eyes like he intended to follow his own command.

I laid their frozen for a time, confused about what just happened and why. It took a long while for my eyes to feel heavy. All the while, I could still hear Grayson’s heart racing fast. It still beat at a quickened pace as I finally drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Teacher walked us back through the forest to the car. We went another long route, circling and changing directions a few times. I knew he wanted to protect those people, so I didn’t say anything about it. Grayson didn’t either.

At the coupe, Teacher pulled me into another hug. “This won’t be the last time we see each other.”

“I’m glad,” I told him.

After our hug, he and Grayson looked at each other. Grayson frowned, and Teacher did too. Until he held out his hand for a handshake. Grayson didn’t reply for a second, so long I thought he might ignore the gesture. But then, finally, Grayson took Teacher’s hand and they shook.

“Keep your head on a swivel, princeling,” Teacher said.

“Don’t end up dead,” Grayson replied. “You’ve lived too long to die in a ditch.”

Fair.” Teacher smiled, and Grayson seemed satisfied.

With that, they went their separate ways. I waved once more before hurrying after Grayson, getting in the car. He turned on the ignition and sped us back toward the capital.

The silence lingered a long while, everything settling in, before I asked him. “What happened in the town?”

“The Royal Army were destroying everything,” Grayson said. “These border towns have always been points of contention, but usually somehow found a balance between the rogues and the people living here. The Army didn’t care. They were torching buildings, schools. Nothing was safe. Fortunately, it seemed as if all the innocents had already fled.”

“Was that the group at the camp?”

“Maybe,” Grayson said. “Maybe Lone Archer wanted me to see that. Are you sure you trust him?”
