"Why do rockets separate?"

Lawrence didn't answer smoothly.

He knew some parts, but for others, he had to look down at his phone.

Leo waited a moment, then mumbled, "Mom always reads up on this stuff beforehand."

Lawrence's expression darkened again.

"Leo."

Hearing the displeasure in his voice, the boy immediately shut his mouth.

The slight warmth that had just built up between father and son instantly vanished.

Lawrence looked at his son's lowered head, feeling a surge of irritation.

He didn't mean to snap at him.

It was just that every time Leo mentioned his mother, it felt like a harsh reminder of how much Lawrence had been absent.

And those absences had always been flawlessly covered up by Wren.

It wasn't until she left that all the cracks began to show.

"If there's something you want to know, I'll look it up when we get back and tell you," Lawrence said, softening his tone.

Leo glanced up at him and gave a small nod.

As they neared the front of the line for the interactive zone, the staff member at the entrance checked their reservation.

"Leo Langford, right?" The staff member smiled at the system. "Reserved by Ms. Willow Whitaker, accompanied by Mr. Langford."

Lawrence's brow twitched.

Leo heard it too.

He asked, "Why didn't Mom make the reservation?"

The staff member looked a bit embarrassed.

"The system shows it was booked by Ms. Willow," the staff member clarified.

Leo looked down, picking at his fingers.

Lawrence was about to speak when Willow's voice suddenly called out from behind them.

"Leo."

Lawrence turned around.

Willow stood a short distance away, holding a bag of kids' drinks and snacks, smiling warmly.

"I was worried you guys wouldn't have time to eat, so I dropped this off on my way."

On her way.

Lawrence gave her a look.

The science museum was nowhere near the Langford Estate or the foundation.

But he didn't call her out on it.

Willow walked over and handed the bag to Leo.

"You must be tired from playing, right? I brought you some water."

Leo took it, but he didn't break into his usual smile.

He looked up at Lawrence.

"Dad, didn't you say it was just going to be you and me today?"

Willow's smile stiffened slightly.

Lawrence also paused.
