Lawrence didn't answer.

She lowered her head again. "I suppose it's understandable. With how she feels about you right now..."

She let the sentence trail off.

Perfectly measured.

And completely deliberate.

Lawrence shot her a glance.

He suddenly felt a spike of annoyance.

"Keep going with the patient segment," he ordered.

Willow's smile turned brittle.

Jude flipped his file open and continued. "Also, I strongly recommend scrapping all minor patient media. We will only present the project timeline at the gala. No photos of children."

Willow couldn't help but interject, "But that's the most emotionally compelling part."

Jude looked directly at her.

"We don't exploit people just because it's compelling."

Willow bit her lip.

Lawrence's phone lit up again.

It was a message from Leo's teacher, Ms. Miller.

[Mr. Langford, Leo submitted his first draft of the family assignment today. I saw that he wrote about waiting until 9:45 last night. He wasn't complaining, but he seemed quite down. I highly suggest letting him know in advance if your schedule changes again tonight.]

Lawrence stared at the text.

The voices in the conference room faded into background noise.

He placed his phone face down and looked up at Xavier.

"Is my schedule cleared after eight?"

Xavier kept his voice low. "The foundation is still waiting for your confirmation regarding the rehearsal."

"Let them wait."

Willow finally lost her composure. "Lawrence, the gala is tomorrow."

Lawrence stared at her.

She immediately softened her tone. "I'm not saying Leo isn't a priority. I'm just worried that if the schedule gets messy, it'll make dealing with Wren even harder."

Lawrence didn't engage with her excuse.

He stood up. "Jude, stay. Everyone else, get out."

Willow's face drained of color.

She slowly gathered her files and followed the project team out the door.

Just before the door clicked shut, she glanced back.

Lawrence wasn't even looking in her direction.

Standing in the hallway, she gripped the edges of her folder so hard they crumpled.
