The next morning, Leo woke up very early.

He stared at it for a moment, debating whether to copy it onto a fresh sheet.

He reached for his desk drawer but stopped.

Ultimately, he put the original card back in his bag.

The driver took him to school.

When the car arrived at the gates, Leo hopped out with his backpack. He had only taken two steps when someone called out to him.

"Leo."

He turned around.

Lawrence was standing by his car, holding a massive paper bag.

Leo froze. "Dad?"

Lawrence handed the bag to him.

"A new model. It's an imported kit. Have the driver bring it home this afternoon, and we'll build it tonight."

The bag was heavy.

Leo grabbed it, nearly losing his balance.

A stunning space station was printed on the front—silver-white, equipped with lights, and featuring remote-controlled solar panels. It was vastly superior to the lopsided cardboard piece sitting on his desk.

Lawrence watched the boy's face.

He had expected Leo to be thrilled.

Or at the very least, a little happy.

But the boy just stared down at it for a long time before asking, "What about the old one?"

Lawrence frowned. "The old one is broken."

"Ms. Miller said we're supposed to repair an old item."

"This one is better."

Leo's grip on the bag slowly tightened.

The school gates were bustling; classmates ran past him, calling his name.

He didn't turn around.

"But I want to fix that one," he insisted.

Lawrence's expression grew cold. "Leo, stop being stubborn."

The boy looked up at him.

It was a fleeting glance.

He didn't argue, nor did he cry.

Yet Lawrence suddenly thought of the assignment card from the night before.
