It was past eight in the evening by the time Xavier found Wren's address.

"Mr. Langford, she is currently staying at Riverside Apartments."

Hearing the name, Lawrence frowned imperceptibly.

Riverside Apartments.

He knew the place.

It was the property Wren had bought before they were married.

After their wedding, she had almost never gone back. Lawrence had only visited it once, right before they got their marriage license, when the place was still cluttered with boxes of books and research materials.

He had taken a work call at the time and hadn't even gone inside to sit down.

Wren had stood in the doorway, a set of keys in her hand, smiling as she asked him, "Do you want to come in and take a look?"

He had replied, "No need. The driver is waiting downstairs."

Her smile had faltered for a second before quickly returning to its usual gentle compliance.

"Alright, maybe next time then."

After that, there never was a next time.

Lawrence closed his file and grabbed his suit jacket.

Xavier followed him. "Mr. Langford, should I arrange a driver?"

"No need."

Lawrence's voice was flat.

"I'll go myself."

He wanted to see just how long Wren planned to keep up this charade.

Riverside Apartments wasn't far from Langford Medical—about a twenty-minute drive.

As the car cruised along the river, Lawrence spotted a row of illuminated residential buildings in the distance.

He suddenly remembered that during the year they got married, Wren had once mentioned how much she loved the balcony at Riverside Apartments.

"You can see the river at night, and it's so peaceful."

How had he responded back then?

He thought he had just given a noncommittal hum.

At the time, he hadn't cared about what places she liked.

She had married into the Langford family, so naturally, she belonged at the Langford estate.

Her preferences, her house, her past life—they all became trivial things that could easily be set aside.

Lawrence parked his car downstairs.

He looked up.

On the seventeenth floor, one specific unit had its lights on.

The apartment number Xavier had texted him was on that exact floor.

Lawrence took the elevator up and pressed the doorbell.

No movement inside.

He pressed it again.

Still, no one answered the door.

Lawrence's expression darkened. He pulled out his phone and called Wren.

This time, the phone rang for a very long time.

Just as he was about to lose his patience, footsteps echoed from the direction of the elevator.

He turned to look.

Wren stepped out of the elevator, her arms wrapped around a stack of documents. She was still wearing the same light-gray suit from the afternoon, a trace of exhaustion lingering around her eyes.

Standing right beside her was Julian.

Julian also held a file folder and was speaking to her in a low voice.

The two walked side by side. The distance between them wasn't overly intimate, yet they shared a natural, unspoken harmony that no outsider could intrude upon.

Lawrence's gaze turned predatory instantly.

Wren saw him too.

Her footsteps paused.

Not out of guilt.

Just out of sheer surprise.

She hadn't expected Lawrence to track her down here.

Following her line of sight, Julian glanced over, his expression remaining perfectly calm.

"Mr. Langford."

Lawrence ignored him completely.

His eyes locked onto Wren's face.

"You've been working until now?"

Wren pulled her phone out of her bag and glanced at the missed calls.

"The project team had an emergency overtime session."

"And he brought you home?"

The question was laced with ice.

Wren could hear the blatant interrogation in his voice.
