The words had barely left her mouth when Rowan loosely grabbed her wrist. He wasn't gripping hard, but no matter how many times Lyra tried to shake him off, she couldn't break free. "What are you doing!"

Rowan raised his hands to cup her cheeks, as if soothing a hostile cat. "You've been dealing with a lot of stress today. Stop running around and come home early with me," he coaxed softly.

Pausing, he added coldly, "Also, when you're on the phone with other men, stop smiling so much. You look like an idiot."

Hearing that, Lyra stomped her heel firmly down on his dress shoe. "Do you have any idea how much you hated me checking up on you in our past life?"

Rowan froze.

Lyra took a half step back to put some distance between them. "Anytime I asked a few extra questions or came looking for you, you just thought I was annoying and suffocating. So now, you don't need to follow me around either."

Without waiting to see his reaction, she walked out the doors, marched straight to the car, and slid into the backseat. The door slammed shut with a heavy thud, leaving Rowan standing alone outside.

Andrea rolled down the window to give her boss a quick nod of acknowledgment before hitting the gas and driving off.

Through the rearview mirror, Rowan's figure grew smaller and smaller. Only after they turned the corner and he was completely out of sight did Andrea ask, "Where to now, Ma'am?"
