After finishing his meal, Lucas made a call to a friend to ask about the latest news in Seaborne City.
His buddy immediately launched into a rant, unable to talk about anything but the massive scandal shaking the city.
"You haven't heard? Rowan Jameson's wife has vanished, along with his infant son. The entire elite circle in Seaborne City hasn't stopped talking about it for days."
"Mr. Jameson has gone completely off the deep end. Usually, he's ice-cold, rational, and never lets a drop of emotion show. But since his wife went missing, it's like he's a different person. He's dumped every ounce of the Jameson family's resources into this. He deployed full land and sea rescue units, put every coastal patrol boat on a twenty-four-hour endless grid search, and sent wave after wave of private helicopters to scan the ocean day and night. He pulled the logs of every yacht and ferry that crossed the harbor. The second there's even a hint of a lead, he flies out personally in the middle of the night to verify it. It's been days. The guy has black bags under his eyes, a full beard growing in, and he refuses to sleep or even eat."
"Are you still in Rochelle City?"
"Yeah, still here in Rochelle," Lucas replied. He hung up the phone and fell silent. Because he had sneaked his yacht onto the shoreline without registering with the port authorities, the Jamesons hadn't tracked him down.
Switching the yacht to autopilot, Lucas headed back into the cabin and saw Lyra still patiently feeding her son.
Back in Seaborne City, Rowan was losing his mind, tearing the world apart to find her, while the woman in question was perfectly fine, taking her sweet time coaxing a toddler to eat.
Lucas thought to himself, 'Whatever. Let Rowan suffer a little.'
He genuinely couldn't care less whether Rowan lived or died.
Pip was quite happy on the boat during the day with an older kid to play with, but at night, he'd whine a bit for his dad. A little coaxing from Lyra was usually enough to distract him.
Two days later, the yacht cruised into a port in Rochelle City.
Carrying Pip, Lyra followed Lucas off the dock. A pale blue Bentley Bentayga was already waiting by the curb. The driver respectfully opened the doors, and they rode smoothly all the way to the Chavez Residence.
As they stepped into the courtyard, Nina Chavez was waiting for them. The moment her eyes landed on Lyra and the baby, she froze, utterly stunned.
Lucas stepped out, placed an arm gently around his wife's shoulders, and leaned in to murmur a few words. Almost immediately, the tension between Nina's brows relaxed, replaced by a warm smile. She stepped forward to greet her guest politely. "Mrs. Jameson, it must have been an exhausting trip. Let me show you to the guest room so you can settle in."

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
