Lyra hadn't taken more than a few steps before she ran right into Rowan. He had probably noticed she was missing from her seat during a break in his networking and came specifically to find her.
He naturally wrapped an arm around her waist, shooting a cool glance toward Josie in the distance. "What did she want to talk to you about in private?" he asked in a low voice.
"Nothing important. Just envying my good life now."
Rowan's lips curved into a slight smile at her answer. They walked back to their table, and Rowan took Pip from Andrea's arms.
Lyra's gaze swept over the guests mingling in the hall. The groom, Zane, was busy entertaining the crowd. The man who had once been a pure, socially awkward tech geek entirely devoted to his research had shed his naivety. He was now fully capable of handling complex business relations on his own.
Rowan leaned in close to Lyra's ear and whispered, "Don't stare at another man for more than five seconds. There are cameras everywhere."
Lyra raised an eyebrow, teasing him right back, "If I don't look at the bride and groom at a wedding, am I supposed to just stare at you?"
Rowan lifted his chin, feigning total seriousness. "I'm better looking than the groom, aren't I?"
"You're definitely cheesier," Lyra added with a light laugh. What a smooth talker.
Passing guests couldn't help but steal glances. The family of three made a strikingly gorgeous picture, drawing eyes wherever they went.
"Such a troublemaker," Rowan murmured, gently pinching her soft cheek. "If you keep talking like that, you're going to completely ruin my reputation."
Sitting in his father's arm, Pip interpreted the cheek pinch as his dad bullying his mom. The little guy instantly started kicking his short legs. Raising a chubby little hand, he gave Rowan's hand a firm smack. His big, dark eyes glared fiercely at his dad, looking incredibly protective and fiercely adorable.
Lyra shook with laughter, quickly pulling the little guy into her arms. She looked at Rowan with her eyes crinkled in amusement. "Looks like I have backup now, and it's someone you can't touch."
Dressed in his miniature suit, Pip sat obediently in Vivienne's arms without a fuss, looking absolutely precious. A sense of immense pride swelled in Vivienne's chest. She carried the baby through groups of acquaintances, chatting away, her profound affection for the boy naturally spilling into her words.
Andrea quietly shadowed Vivienne from a short distance away.
Meanwhile, taking advantage of the rare moment Lyra was sitting alone, a flock of Seaborne City's elite socialites swarmed her, chatting and laughing as they tried to cozy up. Now that she had married into the Jameson family, her status and power were at the absolute peak. Everyone was desperate to use casual small talk to build a relationship and secure future favors.
Amidst the chatter, the wedding music shifted to a lighter tune. The groom, Zane, holding hands with his bride, Lena, walked over with wine glasses in hand, coming specifically to Lyra's table to toast.
They had actually already finished their first round of toasting. They had deliberately circled back because they saw Lyra surrounded by the socialites and wanted to help her out.
Lena's eyes sparkled as she smiled warmly. "Lyra, we came over to toast you again. Thank you so much for the incredibly generous gift."
