She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 666

With that, he stepped out of the room.

A violent shiver ran through Kayla. In the past, even if Rowan was indifferent, he maintained a veneer of politeness. He had never been this overbearing, cold, and utterly dismissive of her feelings.

Anxiety and dread scorched her insides. Kayla couldn't sit still until Lyra gently tugged at her sleeve. "Let's go, Kayla."

Kayla snapped back to reality. Caleb happened to walk in at that moment and teased his sister, "Not taking me along?"

Feeling a twinge of guilt, Lyra forced a smile and politely declined. "Sorry, Caleb. Tonight is girls only. You stay here and watch the twins."

Rowan drove them to a private room in a traditional tea house.

Once inside, Rowan instructed Kayla to sit down. He took Lyra's hand and led her behind an ornate carved screen. The partially enclosed space perfectly shielded them from the main seating area.

Clutching the phone, Kayla took a trembling breath and dialed the video call.

After a few rings, Waylon's face appeared on the screen. His surroundings were cramped and shabby—a cheap rental that entirely stripped him of his former aristocratic elegance.

Seeing Kayla on the screen, Waylon's voice was hoarse and exhausted. "Kayla, you finally reached out."

Pushing down the chaotic emotions swirling in her chest, Kayla slowly recited the script Rowan had prepared for her. "I confronted Caleb about the divorce, but he was incredibly stubborn. He absolutely refused to budge. He said the twins belong to the Fairchilds, and if we divorce, they both stay with him. I can't take either of them."

He had been expressionless moments before, but now his jaw was clenched hard, his knuckles white. The icy fury in his dark eyes layered thicker by the second. He looked utterly terrifying, and the pressure on her hand increased.

Lyra felt like he was ready to murder someone.

She knew Waylon had an ulterior motive, which explained Rowan's reaction. But try as she might, she couldn't piece together the true horror of it.

Waylon was still tirelessly trying to convince Kayla to bring the child, weaving a fairy tale of a future that ignored the harsh reality of their destitute, fugitive status.

While the video call was still running, several agile men in sleek black suits suddenly swarmed into the cramped rental room on the screen. The camera shook violently, accompanied by the harsh sound of crashing furniture. In an instant, the men pinned Waylon's shoulders and back against the small wooden table, twisting his wrists behind him until he was completely immobilized.
