Back at the Jameson Residence, Charles had originally planned to head over to Blackwood Manor. He hadn't shared a meal with his son's family in ages, and he wanted to have dinner with them tonight. It wasn't until he mentioned it to his wife, Victoria, that he finally learned the truth: his daughter-in-law had been hospitalized for a high-risk threatened preterm labor. Caspian had held the pregnant woman hostage at knifepoint, nearly causing a catastrophe. Victoria had deliberately kept the entire ordeal hidden from him for days.
Furious, Charles snapped, "This is absolute madness!"
"Calm down. Rowan has been staying with Lyra this whole time. He hasn't even gone to the office," Victoria soothed her husband. "Our grandson and Lyra are perfectly fine."
It was true. Rowan had completely abandoned his corporate duties, canceling every single commitment that required him to leave the hospital.
A team from the tech division arrived at the hospital's visitor lounge with project files in hand to discuss their proposals with him.
During a break in the meeting, Joel Hunter carefully floated a suggestion. "Mr. Jameson, once we wrap up this business, should we swing by the room to check on Mrs. Jameson?"
"There is no need for that," Rowan replied. A faint smile touched his lips, his tone gentle. "She needs absolute rest to keep the baby safe. She isn't up for seeing visitors right now."
"Alright," Joel nodded, a bit disappointed. Truthfully, he, Gabriel Grant, and the rest of the team had met Lyra years ago.
Back then, she was still a student, possessing a stunning, radiant complexion. But Rowan hadn't paid her much special attention at the time. His colleagues and friends had all assumed that a high-society arranged marriage would be full of complications and unlikely to last, so they had never really taken the young Miss Fairchild seriously.
Now, her position as Mrs. Jameson was rock solid, her status completely transformed. Joel and Gabriel had figured they should at least pay their respects since they were already here. But since their boss had declined, they let it go. The group finished their meeting and left the hospital.
Rowan returned to the hospital room and softly informed the woman resting in bed, "Joel and the team just dropped by for a work meeting."
"Oh," Lyra replied flatly, without a hint of interest.
He genuinely dreaded letting her dwell on anything from their previous life.
Lyra pulled her hand back, curling her fingers into a tight fist as she squeezed her eyes shut. "Don't you care? I stole your employee."
Rowan gazed at her in silence, his eyes overflowing with warmth. "It doesn't matter. Working for you and working for me is the exact same thing. My entire world revolves around you and the baby now. What else could possibly matter?"
He certainly knew exactly what to say to smooth things over.
Lyra turned her face away, her tone growing even more distant. "We already signed The Divorce Agreement. Do me a favor and stop trying to flirt with me, my future ex-husband."
