Lyra struggled frantically in his arms, but she couldn't muster any real strength. She had no choice but to let him carry her into the elevator and up to the second floor. Once they reached the master bedroom, Rowan dropped her onto the soft mattress and casually tossed the crumpled divorce agreement onto the nightstand. He hovered over her, caging her in with his arms, his gaze dark and heavy. "How long have you been planning a divorce?"
Lyra pressed her lips tightly together, keeping completely silent and deliberately avoiding his eyes.
"Not going to talk?" Rowan's voice was hoarse and chillingly cold. He rested his hand gently over her pregnant belly. "You're carrying my child, yet you're secretly drafting divorce papers. What exactly is your endgame, Lyra?"
He leaned in slowly. His thumb brushed lightly over her tense jawline, and before she could turn her head away, his lips captured hers in a dominating, inescapable kiss.
...
A few days later, Charles and Victoria came over to have dinner with Lyra. She was almost six months pregnant now, and her baby bump was very pronounced.
Charles looked stoic and composed, keeping his joy thoroughly hidden beneath a professional exterior. Victoria, however, kept pulling the butler and the maids aside to repeatedly lecture them on the finer points of prenatal care. Charles simply nodded along, entirely unable to hide his excitement.
As dinner wrapped up, Victoria pulled out a vintage velvet box containing the Jameson family's heirloom ring. She gently placed it by Lyra's hand. "This ring is passed down to the true matriarch of the Jameson family. After everything, it still rightfully belongs to you. Keep it safe from now on."
Lyra bit her lip. Realizing she was upset, Rowan secretly reached under the table and grasped her hand, his thumb rubbing soothing circles over her knuckles to silently comfort her.
Once Charles and Victoria left, Lyra went upstairs, and Rowan followed closely behind.
The moment they stepped into the bedroom, he wrapped his arms tightly around her from behind, resting his chin in the crook of her neck.
"Lyra, please stop thinking about divorce. I know you still have a lot of resentment. Take your time to vent, throw tantrums, scream at me—I'll wait as long as it takes for you to forgive me. But don't use divorce to punish me, and don't force our baby to be born into a broken home."

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
