Lyra ultimately said nothing. She simply took the ring Rowan held out to her and casually tossed it into a forgotten corner of the room.
She still found Wesley's claim that Jasmine was recovering perfectly well hard to believe. How could anyone bounce back so easily after plummeting three stories? The next day, as soon as Rowan left for work, she pulled out her phone and called Madeline.
Since Madeline had once joked that Jasmine had the survival instincts of a cockroach, Lyra sarcastically brought it up. "Is Jasmine really that indestructible? Rowan's assistant told me she's doing just fine."
Madeline instantly replied, "I'll get someone to check the hospital right now and find out the truth."
Lyra quietly read her pregnancy books for a bit until Madeline called back.
"She's definitely not recovering quickly. Forget about getting out of bed—she can't even sit up right now. She has to lie completely flat all day. Rowan's assistant totally lied to your face. He probably just didn't want you gloating over her misery."
Lyra nodded in realization. "So Wesley totally deserved having his salary docked. He brought it on himself."
An idea struck Madeline. "Why don't we head to the hospital together and rub it in her face? She plotted to ruin your life, and ended up throwing herself off a balcony instead. It's poetic justice! We should go pop her inflated ego. Let her choke on her own anger."
Lyra readily agreed. "Sure, why not."
Lyra had her bodyguard, Will, drive the car, and she even brought Andrea Nash along for extra security. But once they arrived at the hospital parking lot, Lyra suddenly regretted it.
Madeline, who had arrived in her own car with Leo Chavez, walked over to Lyra's window. But Lyra's enthusiasm had entirely faded. "Never mind. I honestly don't even want to look at her face right now."
"Come on, we're here to piss her off!" Madeline urged. She had also called Leo Chavez over, but he wasn't there yet.
Sitting beside Lyra, Andrea smirked.
Lyra unlocked her phone. "I know a new restaurant, The Sapphire Room. I'll take you out for some good food. I just sent the location, follow my car."
"Well, I'm not leaving empty-handed. Let's go eat," Madeline agreed.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the hospital room was suffocatingly heavy. Tabitha sat by the bed, wiping her tears. The Ford family had finally seen the leaked security footage online and realized the entire truth.
She choked back a sob. "Why would he push you for no reason? And Waylon is just going to let his subordinate get away with hurting you? Is he even going to do anything about it?"
Elara clenched her fists, her face red with rage. "Jasmine, I'm going to go find Waylon right now and demand an explanation. He has to give you justice!"
