Rowan stood by the hospital bed, staring down at the pale and fragile Jasmine, who had just emerged from several grueling surgeries.
As Jasmine saw him finally lower his head, a sickly flush crept onto her ashen cheeks. She slowly closed her eyes, waiting for his kiss.
Instead, Rowan raised his hand and delivered a sharp, brutal slap across her face.
The sheer force of the blow snapped Jasmine's head to the side. Her vision immediately went black, and before she could even process the agonizing shock, she completely lost consciousness.
Right at that moment, the medical staff walked in for their rounds and witnessed the brutal scene. "What are you doing?"
When they got a clear look at the man, the nurse stammered in disbelief, "Mr... Mr. Jameson?"
Rowan casually rolled his right wrist. "I slapped her unconscious so I wouldn't have to listen to her nonsense."
There were four medical professionals in the room, but no one dared to intervene. The Attending Physician simply stepped forward, examined the swollen, red welt on Jasmine's right cheek, and continued his report. "The patient originally suffered multiple fractures, abdominal organ damage, and cerebral contusions from the high fall..."
The doctor pressed his gloved fingers against the swelling to check its severity. "And now, we can add a facial soft tissue contusion to her list of injuries."
Rowan ignored the doctor's clinical assessment. He lifted his gaze to the nurse and asked, "Has any of her family come to visit her?"
The nurse quickly replied, "Not a single family member has shown up. She has been completely alone this entire time. Even for this high-risk level-four surgery, she signed all the consent forms and handled the post-op care arrangements by herself."
It seemed Jasmine had sneaked back into the country without telling a soul. Yet, given the massive scandal she caused at the birthday banquet, the fact that no news had reached the Ford family proved just how marginalized and ignored they had become.
"Doesn't that make her a murderer? How is she just casually strolling around out here?"
"Isn't it obvious? The Jameson family has endless money and power. They probably paid everyone off to sweep the case under the rug. Normal people like us can't compete with that."
Lyra had just wanted a peaceful walk. She never expected to run into such malicious rumors. Delilah looked incredibly uncomfortable. She turned to her daughter and sighed softly, "Rowan really needs to step up and clear the air about these ridiculous rumors."
"I know you're pregnant and wouldn't have the physical strength to throw a grown woman off a balcony, but the neighbors don't know that. They're just blindly speculating."
Lyra thought it over. Since the incident happened at the Jameson family banquet, it was only right for Rowan to handle the fallout. Without hesitation, she pulled out her phone and dialed his number. The moment he answered, she said:
"People out here are still calling me a murderer. Didn't you say the situation was handled..."
