She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 628

Rowan lost all desire to continue the fight. He drove back to the Fairchild estate in a hollow, devastated daze and stepped into the bedroom.

A single, soft bedside lamp bathed the room in a warm glow. Lyra was sleeping soundly on her side, her long lashes resting peacefully against her cheeks, her baby bump gently rising and falling with her breath. She looked incredibly serene and beautiful. It made him sick to think about what this beautiful girl had endured in their past life.

In that life, he had personally pushed her away, forcing her into the arms of another man.

The image looped endlessly in his mind, viciously tearing his sanity to shreds.

Rowan leaned over the edge of the bed, no longer able to suppress the violent tempest of emotion roaring in his chest. He lowered his head and crashed his lips against hers.

The kiss was fueled by an obsessive, terrifying possessiveness. It was heavy, punishing, and borderline painful as he ravaged her mouth, desperate to claim her.

Lyra jolted awake. She shrank back instinctively, intimidated by his massive, imposing figure looming over her in the dark.

Rowan remembered her promise to Waylon clear as day.

She had said she would divorce him the moment the baby was born.

His hands, gripping the sheets on either side of her, slowly curled into white-knuckled fists. He pressed his forehead against hers, his ragged breaths washing over her skin. "Lyra, absolutely no one is going to tear us apart," he rasped, his voice trembling. "Not even you."

As he spoke, he noticed the lingering, sleep-hazed confusion swimming in her beautiful eyes.

"Lyra..." He traced every line of her face with a gaze so intense it burned, his bloodshot eyes locking onto hers. "Don't ever mention divorce again."

A flutter of complex emotion rose in Lyra's chest. She still couldn't fathom what had gotten into him in the middle of the night. His eyes were incredibly red—had he been crying?

Rowan climbed fully onto the bed, recklessly tearing off his shirt to expose the hard, powerful lines of his chest, radiating a dominant, raw energy.

"Lyra, you're so good. When I gave you the gun that day, you didn't pull the trigger. Does that mean... I'm not entirely unforgivable?"

"Lyra, in this life, I am never letting you go. No one is ever going to take you and our child away from me."

His eyes were drowning in dark, possessive obsession. "We are going to be together forever. Okay?"

The next day, Rowan buried himself entirely in his work.

Even when he returned to the Fairchild estate, the aura surrounding him was freezing cold. He remained completely silent, barely uttering a single word. At dinner, he focused solely on serving Lyra, eating almost nothing himself. A heavy, suffocating mood radiated from him.

Caleb stared at his brother-in-law's grim state and pulled Kayla aside, whispering nervously. "Did my joke yesterday actually get to him? I don't feel like I said anything that harsh."
