"If we keep crashing here, my parents will start wondering if we even own our own place."
Rowan wrapped a strong, protective arm around her waist. "The security at Blackwood Manor is far tighter than here. There are full-time guards patrolling twenty-four hours a day. Absolutely no one can get close enough to bother you or the baby. I'll handle work during the day, and I'll be right by your side all night. If you have another nightmare, I can wake you up and comfort you immediately. Isn't that better than staying at your family's place?"
Lyra looked down, refusing to meet his eyes. "Can't you just go back by yourself?"
"How would that look? We're husband and wife."
Rowan's phone buzzed in his pocket. He stepped away to take the call. It was the tech department, and since it involved a pressing work issue, he couldn't hang up right away. Lyra grabbed her pajamas and headed into the bathroom to shower.
After ending the call, Rowan walked back into the bedroom. His gaze landed on the decorative rose choker carelessly tossed onto the vanity. He picked it up, running his thumb over the intricate carved petals. Pressing down on the center of the bloom, he dug his nail in and popped out a tiny, grain-sized camera sensor hidden inside.
Throwing a quick glance at the closed bathroom door, he pulled a compact signal-decoding board from his briefcase. The palm-sized device was fully equipped with its own battery and signal module.
A few seconds later, the indicator light flashed green. He booted up his laptop, automatically searched for the matching device signal, and successfully intercepted the video feed.
The footage popped up on his screen. The clip from The Sapphire Room started with Lyra's back turned to Jasmine, so it didn't initially catch the malicious push. But the moment Lyra whipped around, the camera perfectly captured Waylon grabbing Jasmine and hurling her over the balcony.
Rowan wasn't the least bit surprised by that revelation. He fast-forwarded to the clip of Lyra sneaking out the back gate to meet Waylon while he was in the shower.
Waylon's icy words played through the speakers with crystal clarity:
"If it were me, I'd get rid of the baby and start fresh."
"This child shouldn't even exist. He wasn't there in our past life."
The sheer force of the blow doubled Waylon over, a cold sweat instantly soaking through his shirt.
In the next breath, Rowan grabbed him by the hair, violently yanking him upright, and rained down a flurry of savage punches into his ribs, every strike lethal and merciless.
"You dare interfere with my marriage and my unborn child? What the hell else are you capable of?"
Rowan's eyes were practically glowing with predatory rage. He threw another crushing punch, swelling the entire side of Waylon's face.
Blood stained Waylon's mouth and nose. He looked completely wrecked. A choked, bitter laugh escaped his throat. "You have no right to judge me, Rowan."
"In our past life, you were the one who handed her over to Lucas Chavez."
