She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 623

Lyra was placed in a sterile interrogation room. The police deliberately separated her from Waylon to conduct their questioning.

She wasn't stupid. The fact that the police had arrived with terrifying speed, brazenly brandishing handcuffs in front of the formidable Jameson family, meant someone had intentionally orchestrated the call, using law enforcement as a weapon against her.

Lyra's mind raced back to the sudden, unexplainable drop in temperature that had lured Andrea out of the room. By the time she stepped out onto the balcony, the air conditioning was already back to normal.

She recounted every detail to the officers exactly as it happened.

After the investigating officer stepped out to consult with the precinct captain, he returned, flipping through her statement. "At this moment, we lack concrete evidence to press charges. Mrs. Jameson, you are free to go home and await further instructions."

"Everything hinges on the victim, Jasmine Ford, waking up and providing her statement. Until then, we don't have enough to proceed."

Lyra gave a silent nod. Exhaustion seeping into her bones, she touched her stomach and walked out of the interrogation room.

Rowan was standing right outside the door. He was still wearing the same suit, the faint metallic tang of blood clinging to the fabric. The moment he saw her, he instinctively reached out, desperate to pull her into his arms.

A freezing coldness flashed in Lyra's eyes. She deliberately sidestepped his hand, tucking her arms behind her back, and walked straight past him without a single word.

Rowan's arm hung awkwardly in the air. His jaw clenched as he matched her pace, his voice tight with forced restraint. "This is a matter of life and death. Now is not the time to throw a temper tantrum. We need to talk."

"We have nothing to talk about." Lyra didn't even slow her stride.

She marched out the front doors of the police precinct, fully aware of the officers staring at her.

Wesley and Andrea were waiting outside. She was just about to walk toward Andrea when Rowan moved swiftly, blocking her path entirely.

Unable to hold back any longer, Lyra turned her head, her voice dripping with ice. "Is Jasmine going to be alright?"

"I know you're fearless, but I'm not." Rowan stepped forward, gently gripping her arm to guide her into the safety of the car. "I'm terrified of losing you."

Andrea and Wesley exchanged a loaded look before silently getting into the front seats. Wesley put the car in drive and pulled away from the curb.

In the suffocating quiet of the backseat, Rowan explained, "After my mother cut off Caspian's trust fund, he's been working shifts at a coffee shop overseas. He's struggling, and his boss makes his life hell. Jasmine saw him by chance and started giving him money to help him scrape by. One thing led to another, and they got incredibly close."

Lyra's eyebrows knit tightly together, confusion breaking through her anger. "Even so, how did they end up together?"

"He was lonely in a foreign country, and he realized I had only used Jasmine as a shield back then. He carried a lot of guilt over it. Factor in his obvious preference for older women, and they eventually crossed the line."

Listening to the messy, tangled reality of it all, a sharp, pulsing ache hammered against Lyra's temples. She leaned her head against the cool glass of the window, utterly drained. She didn't even have the energy to fight him anymore.
