She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 611

A few days later, the university's centennial celebration arrived.

A sleek car pulled up slowly to the campus gates. The door swung open, and Waylon stepped out. Dressed in a sharply tailored light grey suit, he radiated the effortless elegance and quiet confidence of an elite visionary. He had brought only a single assistant with him.

His mere presence instantly drew the awe-struck stares of passing students and faculty.

Kayla had been waiting under the welcome promenade. She composed herself and walked up with a polite smile. "Mr. Grayson, it's been a while. I'm Kayla Harrington. I'll be your designated host for the centennial."

Waylon's gaze fell on her. He gave a brief nod, his tone mild and courteous. "Thank you for the trouble, Kayla."

"Mr. Grayson, I'll take you to the history museum first. Afterward, we'll head over to the new tech labs where several of the senior professors are already waiting."

Waylon didn't object. Strolling alongside her, he said casually, "You're Lyra's sister-in-law. You don't need to be so formal. Waylon is fine."

Kayla's heart gave a slight jolt. Pushing the thought aside, she smiled. "Alright."

She covertly studied the man walking beside her. His actions were perfectly measured, and he never overstepped boundaries. He was the epitome of self-restraint and polished manners—cut from the same cloth as Rowan, though Rowan was a ruthless predator in broad daylight while Waylon hid his lethal ambition beneath a veneer of scholarly refinement.

Waylon kept his eyes on the path ahead and suddenly asked, "Juggling the kids and an active career—does Caleb not help out enough at home? Is he pushing you too hard?"

"He treats me wonderfully," Kayla replied with a soft laugh. "Working was my choice. Being stuck at home all the time gets suffocating. Having my own projects keeps me grounded."

Waylon paused. "And how does Lyra treat you?"

"She's amazing to me. She's a genuinely good person."

Waylon gave a slight nod, his tone completely unreadable. "Is that so? That's good."

Just then, a group of university executives, led by the president, hurried over. The president beamed, eagerly extending his hand. "Waylon! We've been looking forward to this! Welcome back!"

Department heads clustered around to exchange pleasantries. The atmosphere became lively as they showered him with praises, declaring him the ultimate role model for their students.

Waylon shook hands politely, his conversation modest and measured. He played the part of the distinguished alumnus to perfection.

After the exhaustingly long campus tour and panel discussions concluded, Waylon politely declined the administration's persistent dinner invitations.

Once he was settled inside his black luxury car, it pulled smoothly away from the campus toward the city center. The polished, approachable smile he had maintained all day instantly vanished, leaving only a dark, brooding look in his eyes.

Back at the administration building, Kayla returned to the office. The moment she walked in, the president approached her, practically beaming.

"Kayla, excellent work today. A lot of the senior staff were worried about hiccups with the VIP reception, but you managed the whole thing flawlessly," the president praised her. "The centennial was a massive success, and we owe a lot of that to you."

"It was my pleasure, sir," Kayla replied.

...

A few days later, Zane personally drove Maisie to Blackwood Manor.

It was Zane's first time setting foot on the property.

Lyra, having just woken from a nap, hadn't expected to see Zane in her living room. As their eyes met, both froze for a split second.

Zane's gaze instinctively dropped to her slightly rounded stomach. An indescribably complex emotion flashed across his face before settling back into a calm facade.

"Lyra," Maisie chirped, hurrying forward to explain. "My mom still hasn't accepted the fact that you married Rowan. I literally had to beg my brother to sneak me over here to see you."

Lyra's features softened. "Thank you both for going out of your way to visit. Come, sit down," she offered warmly.

Maisie grinned sheepishly. Her eyes drifted down to Lyra's belly, practically sparkling with curiosity. "Has Rowan picked out a name for the baby yet?"

"His nickname is Pip," Lyra replied breezily.

Maisie was privately flabbergasted. *Pip? That sounds like a puppy's name!* She couldn't hide her shock as she blurted out, "Rowan actually agreed to that?"

Lyra offered a cool smile. "It's just a nickname. It's perfectly fine to keep it casual."
