It wasn't long after Lyra was rushed into the emergency room that Delilah and Victoria arrived.
Both women had completely abandoned their usual poise, frantically grabbing Andrea's arm. "How is she? What's happening?"
Delilah cried, "Is my daughter going to be okay?"
Victoria demanded, "Is my grandson alright?"
"I don't know yet," Andrea replied tensely. "Mr. Jameson is inside with her. The doctors are doing everything they can to save the pregnancy."
After an emergency assessment to stabilize her contractions and stop the bleeding, the doctor finally ordered Nurse Peterson to wheel Lyra into a quiet, private VIP maternity suite for mandatory bed rest.
Once the urgent lab results and ultrasound scans were compiled, the attending physician sat down, carefully reviewing the ultrasound imagery and blood work.
"Right now, it's a mild threatened miscarriage, but thankfully, there are no signs that it will progress to an inevitable loss. The absolute priority moving forward is strict bed rest. For the next few days, she cannot be allowed to move around or exert herself in any way."
Victoria and Delilah walked up just in time to hear the doctor's assessment. The crushing weight on their chests finally lifted, and sheer relief washed over their faces.
Delilah rushed forward. "Is my daughter going to be alright?"
"The patient experienced a severe emotional shock in a very short window of time," the doctor explained gently. "The extreme psychological distress triggered abnormal uterine contractions, and her progesterone levels dipped, leading to the symptoms. Thankfully, she was brought in just in time."
Delilah's face burned with profound shame. "I... I said some terrible things to her. I never thought she would react like this. I didn't mean any harm."
The doctor looked sternly at the family. "During pregnancy, hormone levels fluctuate wildly, making expectant mothers highly sensitive. Any negative speculation, fear-mongering, or emotional trauma can easily trigger severe contractions. You must ensure she is completely insulated from any further stress."
Delilah looked completely stricken, drowning in regret over the words she had spoken.
Delilah looked utterly humiliated. "I told her... I told her you were only marrying her for the baby."
"That's not enough," Rowan said, his brow furrowing fiercely. "A comment like that wouldn't put her into shock."
Delilah swallowed hard. "Tabitha called me. She said her daughter was going abroad and could never have children again because of the car crash, and that we had won. After I hung up, I started panicking. I thought... I thought because Jasmine couldn't have kids, you were going to take Lyra's baby and give it to Jasmine to raise. Lyra heard that and became terrified. That's when she collapsed."
Victoria stared in stunned horror. Jasmine was permanently infertile?
She had suspected Caspian was behind the crash, but she never imagined the damage was that catastrophic.
Victoria shot Rowan a suspicious look, wondering if he had orchestrated this whole thing.
Rowan's jaw locked, his face turning dangerously dark. "Why would you say something so malicious to her? If I just wanted a baby, I could find a gorgeous supermodel with a Ph.D. I didn't have to choose your daughter."
