After Lyra hung up the phone, Andrea just stared at her.
Quentin and York were staring at her, too.
They genuinely hadn't expected Lyra to openly declare war on the CEO of the Jameson Group.
Lyra glanced back at them. Feeling the sudden awkwardness, Quentin and York quickly excused themselves and hurried away.
Andrea truly believed there was no point in provoking Rowan like this. As they stepped into the elevator, she couldn't help but say, "Miss Fairchild, I really don't think it's a good idea to anger Mr. Jameson..."
"What he decides to do to you is entirely based on his mood. You can't afford to push him."
"Andrea," Lyra cut in, her gaze glacial. "Shut up."
Andrea had made a rare attempt to be helpful, only to hit a brick wall.
She had been with Lyra long enough to know that the Fairchild heiress wasn't an unreasonable person.
So why was she always so hostile toward her?
It was like this all the time—Lyra practically treated both Wesley and herself like they were invisible, or worse.
It felt as though they had somehow offended her without even realizing it.
Then again, it made sense. Lyra despised Rowan.
Naturally, she would despise the watchdogs Rowan sent to keep an eye on her.
"I'm sorry," Andrea murmured, lowering her head.
Lyra's eyelashes fluttered as she fixed her gaze on the illuminated floor numbers changing above the doors.
"You can leave. I'm done with him."
"Don't follow me anymore."
Lyra returned to her office and threw herself into her work.
She hadn't forgotten that in her past life, Andrea Nash had been Jasmine's close friend.
Jasmine admired her, and she admired Jasmine.
They had been kindred spirits.
And Lyra harbored an equal amount of disgust for anyone who looked at Jasmine with admiration.
...
"You got it," Liam agreed immediately, heading out with the butler.
Exhausted, Lyra was about to head to her bedroom when her mother quietly stopped her, having Martha bring out a bowl of nourishing soup for her to drink.
As Lyra ate, Delilah sat beside her, holding baby Hazel.
While her mother chatted away, Hazel flashed Lyra an adorable, toothless smile. Lyra couldn't resist gently pinching the baby's chubby cheeks.
Her mood lifted slightly.
But the peace was shattered when she returned to her room and her phone buzzed with an unexpected caller ID.
It was Jasmine.
Lyra's breath hitched, her entire body tensing at the sight of the name.
She let it ring for several long seconds before finally answering.
"Do you still want the crown?" The voice on the other end was steeped in ice.
Lyra's tone was equally freezing. "Yes. Are you selling?"

The readers' comments on the novel: She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry
What Rowan did in his past life was horrific, and I’m not excusing it, but he truly did everything he could in his second life to repent and atone for what he did to Lyra. At some point, there has to be room for forgiveness and grace. If someone spends their entire life trying to make amends and become a better person, then what does redemption mean if we never allow them a chance to be forgiven? Even someone who has done terrible things deserves the possibility of redemption, and honestly, I want Rowan to be happy too!...
