Run his own brother over?
Caspian's eyes practically bulged out of his head. Had Lyra's love mutated into pure, unadulterated hatred?
Lyra had taken Waylon's warning to heart. Rowan was supposed to fall obsessively in love with some college intern. But she had no idea when this intern would show up. If she waited until Rowan got her pregnant, it would be too late. She'd be trapped in a nightmare again.
Sylvia was right here, and she was perfect. With a woman's intuition, Lyra could easily tell Sylvia harbored feelings for Rowan. Let nature take its course.
"Cas, let go of the past, and you'll find your own happiness," Lyra urged softly. "Let's just watch them get married, okay?"
Caspian's expression flattened. "She's just a blind date. I wouldn't do anything to her anyway."
There was no point in wasting resources on a casual date. His trust fund allowance was already stretched thin. Now, if they actually fell in love... that would be a different story.
Lyra let out a massive sigh of relief and dropped his hands. "Good. I'm leaving then. See you around, Cas!"
When she rushed downstairs, Rowan was noticeably absent from the living room. Mr. and Mrs. Wynter were laughing with Victoria and Charles, while Sylvia sat by herself, charming Grandpa Alistair with her bright conversation.
Seeing Lyra return, the Fairchilds officially said their goodbyes.
Once settled into the backseat of their car, Lyra casually asked, "Where did Rowan go?"
"He went upstairs right after you did," Caleb replied.
Lyra froze, her stomach dropping. Just as panic set in, her phone vibrated with a new text.
"I'll try again." Jonathan Ford paced the floor like a caged animal, his heart hammering against his ribs. He held the phone to his ear, greeted only by the cold, mechanical dial tone.
He hurled the phone onto the plush sofa and turned a vicious glare on Jasmine. "You were with him for three years. Three years! Even a block of ice would have melted by now!"
"We always thought you were so clever," Tabitha spat, crossing her arms. "But when it actually matters, you're entirely useless. Three years wasted, and we got absolutely nothing out of it."
Jasmine stood there, pale and trembling, too exhausted to fight back. She hadn't slept a wink. Every ounce of her venomous hatred was directed straight at Lyra Fairchild.
The next morning, Jasmine marched straight to the Jameson Group headquarters. The moment she saw Rowan step out of his sleek black town car, she charged forward.
"I need to talk to you! It's about Lyra!"
