She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 278

Lyra's fingers tightened and relaxed on the steering wheel. The city streets outside the window blurred into streaks of light in the night as she drove.

The light turned red, and the car slowly came to a stop. Right then, Caleb's call came through.

"How did it go? Did you win Zane over?"

"We're about to go to sleep, but we were waiting for your update... Mom wanted me to ask."

Lyra's stomach was in knots. She couldn't tell if she was choking on grievance or trying to suppress her conflict. "Everything's great. Go to sleep..."

On the other end, Caleb turned his head and whispered to Delilah, "She says it's great, must've worked out."

The red light glared ahead. Tears suddenly welled up in her eyes, a suffocating wave of despair making her throat tight. Lyra forced down a sob and hurriedly ended the call. "Okay, I have to go."

"Come home early, no staying out all night," Caleb ordered before hanging up.

The light turned green, and fueled by pent-up frustration, Lyra slammed on the gas and shot forward.

The car darted through the night. She was distracted, her vision a bit blurry, and before she realized it, a car aggressively swerved in front of her.

The other driver had no intention of letting her go, smoothly turning the wheel and forcing her car to a stop on the side of the road.

Lyra slammed on the brakes and cursed.

It wasn't until the driver got out that she realized it was Rowan.

Suppressing her emotions, Lyra rolled down the window, looking up with lingering annoyance. "What do you want?"

Rowan's gaze landed on the red corners of her eyes. "You've been crying?"

Lyra looked away and didn't answer.

Panicking, Lyra shoved him and reached for the car door.

Just as she turned, her scalp suddenly flared with pain. Rowan grabbed her fishtail braid and gave it a hard tug. The carefully woven hair instantly came undone, falling messily against her neck.

Before she could react, her back was slammed against the cold body of the car. The next second, his fingers gripped her jaw tightly, and without a word, he leaned down and kissed her fiercely.

Lyra's mind went completely blank with a loud buzz, her pupils dilating. She was totally stunned, every thought shattered.

His warm breath, carrying his signature dominating presence, engulfed her. Their breaths tangled together, hopelessly chaotic.

It wasn't until their lips parted that she finally snapped back to reality.

"Are you out of your mind?!"

Lyra wiped her lips with the back of her hand, forcefully shoved Rowan away, and got into the driver's seat. She slammed the door shut with a heavy, muffled thud.
