She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 745

"He's a grown man. What could I possibly do to him?"

Preston's counter-question made Melanie laugh.

They stood facing each other outside Daphne's club, looking like they were having a genuinely good time.

It was as if they were still a couple.

As if they had never broken up.

It took a delayed beat for Melanie to realize she shouldn't be acting so friendly toward him.

She hastily dropped her smile, composing her features into a cool mask.

"Thank you."

Preston suddenly spoke up, his voice soft.

Melanie blinked in surprise.

"Shouldn't I be the one thanking you? You helped me get rid of Shawn."

As soon as the words left her mouth, Preston shook his head, his expression dead serious.

"I'm talking about the GlycaGuard launch... Thank you for helping Stellaris PharmaTech."

His gratitude sounded incredibly sincere.

Melanie offered a casual shrug and a smirk.

"As expected from the head of Stellaris. You weren't even there, yet you're perfectly informed."

Seeing his lips part to speak, she immediately cut him off.

"Just because I didn't fall for Elara's trap and refused to help her sabotage Stellaris, it doesn't mean I forgive you."

As her tone shifted and her expression turned frosty, a flicker of tension visibly tightened Preston's features.

Inside Eclipse Noir, Daphne was blatantly eavesdropping.

While she didn't know all the gritty details of what had gone down between them, it was obvious Melanie wasn't over him.

Especially when comparing Preston to Shawn; it was crystal clear that Melanie saw Shawn as a stranger, or even a threat.

But Preston was still her person.

Just moments ago, Melanie had been laughing so freely outside the club.

Yet suddenly, the entire atmosphere between her and Preston had shifted.

She had never been the patient, calculated type.

Watching them dance around each other was agonizing, and she couldn't resist giving them a shove in the right direction.

"You're never going to hash this out standing on the sidewalk!"

Daphne grabbed Melanie's arm with one hand and pointed accusingly at Preston with the other.

"Why don't you guys head over to Midnight Retreat? The vibe at my friend's boutique inn is perfect. That's where you two really connected last time."

The moment she said it, Melanie shot her a withering glare, her eyes wide and her cheeks flushed crimson.

Daphne snorted, covering her mouth to muffle a laugh as she gave Melanie a firm pat on the back.

"Oh, come on, you're a grown woman. Don't be such a prude!"

That only made it worse. The comment instantly sent Melanie's mind spiraling back to everything that had happened between her and Preston at that romance-themed boutique inn.

Even if she tried to brush it off, the memories were impossible to ignore.

After all, it had been her first time.

Granted, she had been swept up in the intoxicating atmosphere, letting the intense chemistry take over her better judgment.
