"Uh... your fiancé's jealousy is completely out of control, isn't it?"
Gabriel scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
He felt a pang of pity for Elara, but mostly, he felt incredibly targeted for something completely innocent.
He hadn't done a single inappropriate thing. Was basic decency a crime now? Was he supposed to just let a drunk woman face-plant into the floor?
As far as he was concerned, all that hatred and anger should be aimed squarely at Alistair, not him.
Now that he knew exactly how she'd gotten those bruises, Gabriel had absolutely no idea what to do next.
"You... just take care of yourself, okay?"
Throwing out the awkward sentiment, he spun on his heel, ready to bolt.
"Wait!"
Elara croaked out, halting him in his tracks.
"You're just going to leave me here?"
Gabriel's lips twitched.
What else was he supposed to do?
He wasn't a doctor, and he definitely wasn't a cop.
Since it was her fiancé who put her in the hospital, this was a domestic issue. Stepping into that mess was a spectacularly bad idea.
Not to mention, if he did interfere, it might just give Alistair another excuse to hurt her worse.
However...
Gabriel looked down at her swollen, battered face, and a wave of raw guilt washed over him. He couldn't just walk away.
"Look... is there anything I can do to help?"
That weekend, Melanie and Preston had a rare couple of days with zero work scheduled.
They had promised Daphne they would join her for a genuine double date.
A massive new theme park, Averin Adventure Park, had just opened on the west side of the city. Daphne had invited Everett, along with Melanie and Preston, to spend the weekend there.
They had booked two-day VIP passes and hotel rooms, ready for a full weekend of uninterrupted fun.
Honestly, Melanie wanted no part of this chaotic outing.
