children.
When Azriel finally ended the call, he turned to find Lora waiting for him. His expression was a mixture of frustration and concern. “Bella had a tantrum and more nightmares, poor thing,” he explained, his voice low. “She couldn’t fall asleep and refused to leave Asher’s bed. Now, Asher’s insisting on talking to me before going to sleep because he had a nightmare earlier today and now was terrified of closing his eyes.”
“Oh, I hope they’re okay. Surprisingly, they really connected to each other. It is good that she has him as support,” Lora whispered, her heart aching for their children. “Maybe we should head back earlier?”
Azriel’s eyes softened as he looked at her. “You’re not going anywhere, my Luna. They can manage without us for one night. Let’s go inside. It’s important to enjoy this evening, and you need to rest.
He kissed her forehead once more, his touch gentle and soothing. Lora nodded, her resolve
strengthened by his reassurance. They began to head back inside when they were interrupted by a grating voice.
“How romantic,” the voice sneered. “Now take your paws off my mate.”
Both Lora and Azriel turned in surprise to find Alex Blackwood standing before them, his face
flushed and his eyes glassy from intoxication. His presence was like a dark cloud over the
evening’s joy.
