Reconciliation-2
James leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his eyes never leaving hers. “Start with why you refused to mark me. Why won’t you come to Stormheart with me? I need to understand, Tamsin.”
She took a deep breath, looking away for a moment as she gathered her thoughts. “It’s not that I don’t want to be with you, James. I do. I want to be with you more than anything,” she confessed, her voice breaking slightly. “But… it’s complicated.”
“Complicated how?” James pressed, frustration and confusion bubbling inside him. “We’re mates, Tamsin.
That bond, it’s supposed to bring us together. We’re meant to be, but it feels like you’re pushing me away.”
Tamsin looked at him, her expression torn. “I’m not pushing you away. But I have responsibilities here, James. This pack, my role, is not something I can just abandon, especially now when Kaia has just delivered her baby. I am her Chief of Staff, and she relies on me. And the thought of moving… leaving all
this behind-it terrifies me.”
James ran a hand through his hair, his heart aching as he listened to her. “I understand responsibility,
Tamsin. But we can work through this together. You don’t have to do it alone.”
Tamsin’s eyes softened, but her voice was still laced with fear. “What if I fail? What if I go with you, and I
lose everything I’ve built here? What if… your pack is not accepting me? What if the Stormheart pack doesn’t accept me? What if they don’t see me as fit to be your mate, especially as a Beta’s mate? I’m just… I’m just an orphan, James. I don’t have a family, a history, or a legacy like you. I was raised by this pack, yes, but I’ve always been on the outside looking in. How can I step into such a powerful role?”
Her words hit James like a punch to the gut. His heart ached at the thought of Tamsin feeling so alone, so
unworthy. He reached up to gently cup her face, his thumb brushing away a tear that had escaped down
her cheek. “Tamsin,” he began softly, his voice filled with conviction, “you’re not just anyone. You’re my
mate, and that alone makes you worthy of standing by my side. It doesn’t matter if you’re an orphan or if
you don’t come from a prestigious family. You’ve proven your strength in everything you’ve done. The pack will see that. And if anyone dares to question your place, they’ll answer to me.”
