An Alpha’s Despar-1

An Alpha’s Despair-1

Azriel knelt on the battlefield, his arms wrapped tightly around Lora’s lifeless form, shaking her gently, as if trying to will her back to consciousness. His heart pounded in his chest, his breath ragged as tears blurred his vision. Blood, sweat, and the dust of the battlefield coated him, but he didn’t care. His entire world had come crashing down the moment Lora had collapsed in his arms.

“Lora, please…” he whispered, his voice cracking. “Wake up. Don’t leave me like that. Not after

everything.”

Inside him, Thunder, his beast, was roaring in anguish, clawing at his chest, trying to break free. The primal, uncontrollable urge to shift and tear everything apart surged within Azriel, but he held

it back. He had to. For Lora.

Markus rushed over, his eyes wide with concern as he saw the devastation in his bestfriend’s face

Azriel’s hands trembled as he shook Lora again, his voice rising in desperation. “Markus! Do

something! She’s not waking up! Please!”

Markus knelt beside Azriel, placing a hand on his shoulder, his own heart heavy with sorrow. “Azriel,

listen to me…”

“No!” Azriel cut him off, his voice raw with emotion. “She sacrificed herself for all of us, Markus.

She… she gave everything. Bring her back. You have to. Goddess, no… No!”

His voice broke as he held her even tighter, his body shaking with the weight of his grief. His

anguish was palpable, a raw wound that spread across the battlefield like a wave. Even the warriors who were still fighting paused, drawn to the scene as they felt the magnitude of Azriel’s

heartbreak.

Layzal, the Vampire Prince, approached cautiously. His face was grim as he knelt beside Lora’s still form, his hands hovering over her as he concentrated. His brow furrowed, his fingers trembling

slightly as he probed her energy.

“She’s not alive…” Layzal murmured softly, his voice heavy with sorrow. “But she’s not dead either.

She’s… in limbo, caught between the worlds.”

Azriel’s breath hitched, his eyes wide with disbelief. “What does that even mean?!” he demanded,

his voice frantic. “She can’t stay like this. You have to bring her back!”

Layzal looked up, his expression pained. “I can’t, Alpha. She’s beyond anyone’s reach. Her spirit is with the Gods now. She must find her way back on her own, it this is her fate.”

Azriel’s heart shattered at those words. He looked down at Lora’s pale face, her body limp in his

arms, and a sob tore through him. He pressed his forehead against hers, whispering broken words

of love and desperation. “Please come back to me, Lora… Please… I can’t lose you. I can’t do this

without you.”

Markus, standing by his side, squeezed Azriel’s shoulder, his own face etched with sorrow. “Azriel…

we need to get her back to the pack. There’s nothing more we can do here. We have to trust her to

find her way back. And you need to take her to a doctor now!”

Azriel snapped from his daze at Markus’ words, shaking off the weight of the battlefield and

focusing on the only thing that mattered, Lora. With a sudden surge of desperation, he scooped her up into his arms, cradling her lifeless form against his chest. Her body was so still, yet the bond

between them still pulsed faintly, giving him a fragile thread of hope to cling to. His heart raced as

he turned toward the direction of the Stormheart Pack, his steps heavy with desperation.

Markus watched Azriel take off, moving like a storm through the battlefield towards the closest SUV. His face was tight with concern, but he quickly gathered himself, knowing that Azriel would

need time with his mate.

“Praetorians!” Markus barked, his voice sharp and commanding. A few of his most trusted

warriors, clad in the armor of the elite guard, stepped forward without hesitation. “Go with him. Make sure they reach the Stormheart Pack safely.”

The Praetorian guard nodded, following Azriel. They would ensure that no one, and nothing, would stand in his way. Azriel’s focus was solely on Lora, but he was grateful for their presence. He moved with the speed of desperation, his mind racing, his heart pounding as he whispered to her,” Hold on, Lora. Please… just hold on a little longer.”
