Kaia clung to him, the scent of him calming her despite the darkness that had filled her vision. Promise me,” she whispered, her voice so small it nearly broke him.

“I promise,” he whispered back, holding her tightly as though it would be the last time. His heart ached, but he knew he had to let her go. He had to fight, for her, for their future, for Lora, and for

the pack.

The moment passed in silence, Kaia resting against him while her tears fell quietly. She pulled back, brushing the tears from her cheeks as she tried to muster some strength. “Be careful,

Markus. Please.”

Markus nodded solemnly, his hand cupping her cheek. “I will. And I’ll be back before you know it.”

Tara’s presence was weak but steady, and she responded with a low growl. “These damn Lycans gave us a strong cocktail of wolfsbane and something else. It weakened us more than I expected. Tay a’s voice was tinged with frustration. “But we’re lucky, Lora. They didn’t drug us again.”

Lora nodded, feeling her strength return just a little. “They probably think we’re too weak to recover this quickly. They don’t know about you, about the power of a white wolf.”

Tara growled in approval. “Their arrogance will be their downfall. But I’m sorry, Lora… I’m sorry’l

Lora closed her eyes, pain coursing through her as she remembered the torment she had endured.
