Taras Back 1
Tara’s Back-1
The air was thick with tension as the Stormheart Pack prepared for battle. The moon hung low in [
the sky, casting an eerie glow on the wolves who stood in formation, their faces set with grim determination. Weapons were strapped, gear checked, and warriors steeled themselves for the bloodshed that was to come. They were ready, but the weight of uncertainty still loomed over them.
Kaia stood at the edge of the clearing, her eyes scanning the horizon as if she could find answers in the distance. Beside her was Markus, who was tightening the straps on his armor, readying himself for the brutal fight ahead. She could feel the dread knotting in her chest, and despite Markus’ calm demeanor, she knew he was feeling the same.
“Markus,” Kaia said softly, her voice trembling as she reached out to grab his arm. He stopped and turned to her, sensing the depth of her worry. “Let me try again,” she said, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Markus frowned, shaking his head as he placed his hands on her shoulders. “Kaia, no. You’ve already pushed yourself too hard. I can’t let you risk yourself or our pup again.”
Tears welled up in her eyes, but she remained resolute. “I have to, Markus. I need to know what’s coming. I need to see if there’s anything we can do to stop this… to keep you all safe.” She placed a hand protectively over her pregnant belly, her heart pounding with the weight of what she was about to do. “Please,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I can’t just stand here and do nothing.”
Markus’ jaw tightened as he looked at his mate, the woman who had been his strength through so much. He hated this, hated that she would put herself at risk, but he knew her too well. She wouldn’t rest unless she tried. With a deep sigh, he pulled her into his arms, his hand gently cradling her stomach. “I need you to stay safe, Kaia. I’m fighting for all of us: our future, our family. Layzal and the others will join Azriel soon. We’ll be stronger together.”
“I know,” Kaia sniffled, burying her face in his chest. “But it doesn’t make it any easier, knowing you’re walking into danger.” She pulled back slightly, her eyes wet but determined. “Let me do this.”
Markus nodded reluctantly, releasing her. She closed her eyes, centering herself as she reached deep within to summon her gift. The world around her began to fade, and in its place, a torrent of images began to surge. The vision came, chaotic and violent, a flood of darkness and death. Her breath hitched, and her heart began to race as the terrifying scene unfolded before her.
When she finally opened her eyes, they were wide with terror, her face pale as tears streamed down her cheeks. Markus was at her side in an instant, holding her tightly.
“What did you see?” he asked, his voice low and urgent.

Kaia’s voice trembled as she spoke. “I saw… a sea of dead bodies. All of them… minced and
covered in dark, twisted veins.” Her eyes filled with fresh tears. “So many, Markus. So many dead. It
was… oh Moon Goddess, it was horrific.”
Markus felt a chill run down his spine, but he kept his expression steady, refusing to let himself falter. “Was there anyone we know?” he asked quietly, his tone calm despite the fear gnawing at
him.
Kaia shook her head, her body trembling. “No… I couldn’t see any faces. They were all just… bodies, like a sea of death. The veins were black and pulsing. I could feel the death in the air, Markus. It was suffocating. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Markus inhaled deeply, his hand tightening on her arm as he tried to comfort her. He could feel the weight of her vision bearing down on them, but he couldn’t allow himself to be swayed. This battle had to be fought, no matter the cost. “It’s not our fate,” he whispered fiercely, pulling her close. “We will get through this. I will come back to you, Kaia. I swear it.”
