Plans and Hopes-1

Kaia realized that gaining the little girl’s trust was crucial. Every second that passed was an opportunity for someone to notice them, which could draw unwanted attention. She softened her voice even more, trying to coax the girl out.

“What’s your name, sweetie? I am Kaia,” Kaia asked gently.

The little girl remained silent, her big, fearful eyes locked onto Kaia’s, but she didn’t answer. Kaia could see the terror etched on the child’s face, and it broke her heart. She knew she needed to get through to her quickly.

“It’s okay, I’m here to help you,” Kaia continued, her tone tender and reassuring. “Where is your mommy?”

At the mention of her mother, the girl’s lips trembled, and she started to sniffle again, her small body shaking with fear. Kaia kept her voice calm and steady, talking to the girl softly, promising her safety. After a few more moments of gentle coaxing, she finally saw the little girl’s resolve begin to

crack.

Slowly, hesitantly, the girl unlocked the stall door and stepped out, still trembling, her eyes wide

with fear as she looked up at Kaia. Kaia smiled warmly at her, doing her best to appear as

non-threatening as possible.

“You can trust me,” Kaia said, her voice filled with kindness. “I’m going to help you find your

mommy.”

But just as the words left her mouth, the little girl suddenly let out a sharp scream, clutching her small chest as she crumpled to the floor. Kaia’s heart dropped in panic. She rushed to the girl, scooping her up into her arms.

“I’ve got you, sweetie,” Kaia whispered urgently, holding the child close. “What’s the matter?”

To Kaia’s shock, Sierra’s voice echoed in her mind, filled with disbelief. “This little girl… she has her

wolf already.”

“What?!” Kaia’s own shock mirrored Sierra’s. A child this young shouldn’t have a wolf yet, but before she could process the information, a wave of distress and desperation slammed into her mind through her bond with Markus.

“Markus, what’s going on?!” she asked, panic threading through her thoughts.

Markus’s voice came back over their link, devastated and strained. “The Lycans… they killed a woman in the terminal. I believe she is the one that we were searching for. We were too late.”

“What?!” Kaia’s voice was full of disbelief. “How? In broad daylight?”

“They flagged her as a terror risk,” Markus replied, his voice filled with fury and helplessness. “When she tried to escape, they shot her down. They knew we were here. They’re onto us. Kaia, we need to get out of here now!”

Kaia’s heart raced as she looked down at the little girl in her arms, now limp and unresponsive. Sierra,” Kaia said mentally, her voice trembling, “Is she okay?”

“She’s alive, but I think she felt her mother’s death,” Sierra replied sadly. “Her wolf must have sensed the bond break. Poor thing.”

Kaia nodded grimly, her protective instincts surging. She had to get the girl out of there. She quickly removed her hoodie and wrapped it around the child’s small body, making sure she was covered and safe. Kaia then mind-linked the two guards stationed nearby.

“Walk away now. That’s an order,” she commanded.

Once she sensed they had obeyed, Kaia carefully exited the restroom with the girl cradled in her arms. The airport was in chaos, people were running, screaming, trying to get away from the scene of the shooting. Kaia took advantage of the panic, blending in with the crowd. She spotted a baby stroller that had been left behind in the rush. Quickly, she placed the girl inside and covered her

face and body with the hoodie, hoping to keep her hidden from prying eyes.

Kaia kept her head down, pushing the stroller as she moved with the crowd, heading towards the exit. Her heart pounded in her chest, but she forced herself to stay calm. She knew Markus would be frantic, but she had to keep her focus, especially as she noticed all the security and people in military attire. Anyone could be a Lycan. It was a life and death situation.
