A Needle in a Haystack-3
Kaia, despite her best efforts to remain focused, felt a growing pressure in her bladder. The pregnancy had brought many new challenges, and this was one of them. She couldn’t hold it any longer.
She mind-linked Markus, letting him know she needed to head to the restroom. “I’m sorry, Markus, but I need to go. I’ll be quick.”
Markus, ever the protective mate, immediately signalled two guards to accompany her. “Stay
close, and be careful,” he reminded her.
Kaia made her way to the restroom, feeling immense relief as she finally answered nature’s call.
She chuckled softly, rubbing her belly as she spoke to her unborn child. “You little troublemaker,
you really like pressing on mommy’s bladder, don’t you?”
She finished up and was about to leave the restroom when she heard a muffled sound, almost like
someone crying quietly. It was faint but unmistakable. Kaia immediately called Sierra, her wolf, to
the surface.
“Sierra, do you sense anything?” Kaia asked, her senses on high alert.
Sierra sniffed the air, but there was nothing. “It’s strange,” Sierra replied, “I can’t smell anything, not
even the usual scents humans carry. But I can hear it, someone’s definitely here, trying to keep
quiet.”
Kaia felt a shiver run down her spine. “Hello? Are you okay?” she called out, her voice soft but clear.
The noise stopped abruptly, and silence filled the room. Kaia’s concern deepened. “Are you okay in
there?” she tried again, but there was no response.
She frowned, unsure of what to make of it. Instincts told her something was off. She could’ve
easily walked away, but something made her stop. She was about to leave when she turned back
to the stall where she’d heard the noise.
“I know you’re in there,” Kaia said, her voice gentle but firm. “Just let me know you’re okay, and I’ll
leave.”
Still, no sound came from the stall. Kaia hesitated for a moment before bending down to look
under the door. To her surprise, there were no legs visible.
“Hmmm… I must be crazy,” she muttered to Sierra, confused by what she was experiencing.
But as she straightened up, something in the air felt wrong. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she was missing something important, something crucial. The restroom was too quiet, too still, and it

was starting to get under her skin.
Kaia felt her pulse quicken as she weighed her options. She knew that what she was about to do wasn’t exactly safe, especially not in her condition, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was seriously wrong. Taking a deep breath, she decided to do something a bit crazy She slipped into the stall next to the one where she had heard the muffled crying, carefully locking
the door behind her.
“Sierra, help me balance,” Kaia whispered internally, her determination unwavering.
“Our mate would not be happy about our acrobatics, especially while pregnant, Sierra replied, a mix of concern and reluctance evident in her voice.
“I know, but I have to do this,” Kaia insisted.
Ignoring the discomfort of her situation, Kaia placed one foot on the toilet seat, then carefully hoisted herself up, balancing her weight as she stretched up to peek over the partition wall. Her muscles tensed as she leaned forward, her hand gripping the top edge of the stall for support.
When Kaia finally managed to look over the wall, her heart squeezed in compassion. There, curled up on the toilet seat in the adjacent stall, was a small, frightened little girl. Her tiny body was shaking, as she hugged her knees to her chest. The sight of her immediately tugged at Kaia’s heartstrings.
“Sweetie,” Kaia said softly, her voice gentle and soothing, trying not to startle the child, “why are you here alone? Where are your parents?”
The little girl jumped, her head snapping up in surprise. Her terrified eyes locked onto Kaia’s, and she looked like a deer caught in headlights, frozen with fear. Kaia’s heart ached as she saw the fear in the girl’s eyes, this was the very child she had seen running through the airport in her vision.
For a brief moment, time seemed to stand still. Kaia froze in place, her breath catching in her throat. This was the little girl she had seen in her vision, the one she and Markus had been
searching for.
“But where is her mother?” Sierra asked in an agitated voice.
