A Needle in a Haystack-2
But Kaia wasn’t one to back down easily. “I’m coming with you,” she said firmly, her tone leaving no
room for argument.
Markus turned to face her, his brows furrowed in concern. “Kaia, it’s too dangerous. You know that. Besides, your place is here. I can’t risk..”
“You don’t understand,” Kaia interrupted, her voice rising slightly. “I’m the only one who knows what they look like. Searching for two people in a full airport is like finding a needle in a haystack. You need me there. Plus, what if the future changes again?”
Markus hesitated, his protective instincts clashing with the logic of her argument. “But what about your royal duties? The kingdom needs you here, especially now.”
Kaia gave him a small, confident smile, one that told him she had already thought this through. “I have Tamsin keeping things under control. Don’t worry about this. I trust her, and you should too.”
Markus sighed, running a hand through his hair as he weighed his options. He knew Kaia was right, her presence could be the key to finding the woman and the little girl in time. But the thought of her being in harm’s way was almost unbearable. After a short internal debate, he finally relented.
“Alright,” he said, his voice filled with reluctant acceptance. “But you have to promise me you’ll listen to all my warnings and follow every security protocol. No taking risks, Kaia.”
Kaia nodded, her expression serious. “Agreed. I’ll follow your lead, Markus.”
Within the hour, they were on board one of the royal family’s private jets, flying towards Montreal. Two other jets with his Praetorian Guard where on route, as support. The atmosphere in the cabin was tense, the urgency of their mission hanging in the air. Kaia sat beside Markus, her hand resting on his, drawing comfort from his presence. But despite the closeness, worry etched her features. “I just hope we make it in time,” she said softly, her voice tinged with anxiety.
Markus squeezed her hand, his own worry mirroring hers. “Me too, my love. Me too.” He leaned over to kiss her forehead, drawing strength from her even as his mind raced with the possibilities of what awaited them in Montreal.
Kaia felt a gentle shake on her shoulder, pulling her from the depths of sleep. She opened her eyes slowly, blinking away the remnants of her dream as she saw Markus leaning over her with a soft
smile.
“Wake up, sweetie. We’re here,” he said quietly, his voice full of warmth.

“What time is it?” Kaia asked, rubbing her eyes as she tried to gather her bearings.
“It’s almost 11 a.m.,” Markus replied, checking his watch. “We barely made it in time.”
Kaia’s eyes widened with the realization. “Then let’s go into the terminal,” she said, a newfound
urgency in her voice.
Markus nodded, his expression turning serious as he handed her a set of clothes. “Okay, but please be cautious, as we discussed. Wear these as a disguise, and don’t forget the scent-masking perfume. We want to stay as much under the radar as possible.”
Kaia nodded in agreement, quickly changing into the clothes Markus had provided. The outfit was simple and understated, designed to blend in with the crowd. She spritzed the scent-masking perfume, which would help them avoid detection from anyone who might be tracking them by
smell.
Once they were ready, Markus took her hand, and together they made their way into the terminal, blending in as normal passengers with their purchased plane tickets. The bustling airport was filled with people hurrying to their gates, the sound of announcements echoing through the air. Despite the busy environment, Kaia and Markus moved with a calculated calmness, their eyes and
ears attuned to every detail around them.
They had stationed their guards discreetly throughout the terminal, all of them alert and watchful, searching for any sign of the woman and the child from Kaia’s vision. But as the minutes dragged on, nothing happened. The tension grew with each passing second, and frustration began to creep
