Plans and Hopes-2

As she neared the airport’s exit, Markus’s mind-link came through, filled with desperation. “Kaia, where are you? Damn it, answer me!”

Kaia took a deep breath before responding, keeping her voice steady, trying to form a plan as she looked around. “You’ll find me at the Marriott Airport Hotel restaurant. Come discreetly, and make

sure you’re not followed.”

“What is happening, Kaia? What is this?” Markus’s frustration was palpable.

“I have the girl,” Kaia replied firmly. “I can’t risk her safety. Just meet me there and be careful.”

With that, Kaia focused on getting to the hotel, praying that they could stay one step ahead of the Lycans and keep the little girl safe.

After what felt like an eternity, Kaia finally heard Markus’s voice through their mind link, his tone firm and urgent. “Go to the bar and ask for Oscar. He’ll give you a key. Come to the room immediately.

Kaia’s heart pounded as she navigated through the hotel, her senses on high alert. The tension in the air was palpable, every footstep echoing ominously as she pushed the stroller forward. When she reached the bar, she kept her head down, avoiding eye contact as she requested the key from Oscar. The bartender handed it over without a word, his expression blank and professional. Kaia quickly made her way to the second floor, her breath coming in short, anxious bursts.

As soon as she opened the door to the room, she was swept up into Markus’s protective embrace. His arms wrapped tightly around her, holding her as if he never wanted to let go.

“Never do this to me again,” Markus whispered fiercely, his voice thick with emotion. “I was about to go crazy in the airport.”

Kaia clung to him, tears streaming down her cheeks. The relief of finally being safe, of being in his arms, overwhelmed her. “I was so scared, Markus,” she admitted, her voice trembling. “But I got her out.”

Markus looked down at the stroller, his expression one of awe and disbelief. “Is she… the one?”

“Yes,” Kaia replied, her voice soft and full of compassion. “She was hiding in the restroom.”

Markus’s gaze softened as he carefully lifted the little girl out of the stroller, laying her gently on the bed. “Is she asleep?” he asked.

Kaia shook her head, her eyes filled with sorrow. “No, she’s in shock. She already has her wolf,

Markus. She felt it when her mother died. The pain… it overwhelmed her.”

Markus’s face hardened as he absorbed the weight of her words. He looked down at the small, fragile body on the bed, his heart aching for the little girl.

“How could they do this?” Kaia asked, her voice thick with disbelief. “Kill her mother in a public place like that?”

Markus shook his head, his expression grim. “They’re more ruthless than we ever imagined. This proves they have deep connections, twisting their actions to appear normal. They’ve blended into human society far better than we thought.”

Kaia’s concern deepened as she looked at the little girl. “If they spotted you,” she began, her voice tinged with worry, “then she isn’t completely safe with us. They’ll know about her.”

Markus frowned, considering her words. “What do you propose?”

Kaia met his gaze, her resolve clear. “Let’s call my brother.”

After the tense call with Azriel ended, Markus lowered the phone and turned to Kaia, concern etched across his face. “Are you sure this is the right decision?” he asked, his voice heavy with doubt. The weight of the situation was palpable, and the stakes were higher than ever.

Kaia leaned back against the wall, exhaustion evident in her posture. Dark circles shadowed her eyes, and the emotional strain of the day was clear.

She sighed deeply before responding, her voice soft and weary. “I’m not sure of anything right now, Markus,” she admitted. “But this poor girl… she deserves safety. She deserves a loving family. And right now, I can’t think of anyone better to give her that than Tim and Dana. Plus that Dana will be the perfect one to take care of her due to her special training.”
