Battle Plans-1
The next day, the kingdom gathered for the burial ceremony of Queen Tonya. The atmosphere was somber, the air thick with mourning as a grand procession moved slowly towards the royal mausoleum. The ceremony was as fastuous as befitted a Queen, with banners bearing the royal crest fluttering in the breeze and mourners dressed in black lining the streets, their heads bowed in respect. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows over the procession as it moved forward, the weight of the occasion felt by all. Many officials and alphas were present, along even with a delegation from the Vampires, as Prince Layzal himself was in attendance.
Markus walked at the head of the procession, his face a mask of composure, but inside, he was
torn in two. Half of him wanted to mourn the loss of his mother, to remember the woman who had
raised him, the Queen who had ruled the kingdom with strength. But the other half of him was
consumed by anger and sorrow for the pain and destruction she had caused, including the
suffering she had inflicted on Kaia, his own mate and her family.
As they reached the mausoleum, where Queen Tonya’s body would be laid to rest, Markus felt
Kaia’s hand gently squeeze his. He glanced at her, finding solace in her steady gaze. In that
moment, she mind-linked with him, her voice soft and reassuring in his mind. *”It’s okay to be sad,
my love. It’s okay to grieve. Despite everything, she was your mother “*
Markus closed his eyes for a moment, allowing himself to feel the grief he had been holding back.
He squeezed her hand in return, his gratitude for her support overwhelming. He knew he was not
alone in this; Kaia was with him, every step of the way.
The ceremony continued, with the royal clergy delivering prayers and eulogies. As the final words
were spoken and the mausoleum doors closed behind Queen Tonya’s coffin, the mourners began
to disperse, returning to the castle, Anton walked slowly beside Markus, his shoulders hunched
with exhaustion. The events of the past days had taken their toll on the former king, and he looked
older than ever. He glanced at Markus, his voice barely above a whisper. “Now, what’s next, son?”
Markus stopped walking, his gaze fixed on the horizon. The air was thick with the scent of earth
and flowers, and the wind whispered through the trees, as if carrying the voices of those long
gone. He turned to his father, his expression resolute, though his eyes still held the shadow of
grief. “Now… we are preparing for war.”
Anton nodded, understanding the gravity of his son’s words. The threat that loomed over their kingdom was real and imminent. They had to be ready for whatever came next.
As Markus, Kaia, Lora, and Azriel settled back into the castle, the weight of the day’s events pressed heavily on them. Anton excused himself as he made his way towards his chambers. The halls were quiet, the air thick with unspoken thoughts and lingering grief. They were alone for a

moment, gathering their thoughts, when the silence was broken by the sound of approaching
footsteps.
Prince Layzal, the Vampire Prince, appeared before them. His usually composed face bore a
solemn expression, reflecting the gravity of the situation. After exchanging a few compassionate
greetings, acknowledging the recent loss and the looming challenges, he requested to speak with
them in private. Markus, sensing the importance of the matter, nodded in agreement and led the group to his private office.
Once inside the dimly lit room, the atmosphere grew tense. Layzal wasted no time, immediately
updating them on the latest intelligence received from his scouts.
“Our scouts have reported increased activity near the Canadian border,” Layzal began, his voice low and steady. “The Lycans seem to be gathering their forces there, likely preparing for an
assault. As we discussed, given the intelligence we’ve gathered, it seems prudent to strike first,
take them by surprise before they can mobilize fully.”
Markus nodded, his expression grim. “Our own scouts have reported similar movements. We’ve been tracking their numbers and their supply routes. We’re preparing to launch a full-scale attack in two days’ time as we agreed. We need to strike hard and fast, before they can gain any more
ground.”
