Burial Ceremony-2
Kaia managed a small, relieved smile, her earlier confidence now giving way to the reality of what
she had just done. “Actually, my knees are still trembling with tension,” she admitted in a low voice.
“But you know what they say, fake it till you make it.”
Lora grinned, patting Kaia on the back. “Well, if that was faking it, I can’t wait to see you when
you’ve made it.”
Kaia laughed softly, the sound tinged with both relief and the weight of responsibility. The road ahead was daunting, but she knew she wasn’t alone.
Kaia walked through the grand hallways of the castle, the weight of her new responsibilities pressing down on her shoulders. Her mind was still racing from the confrontation earlier, but now she had to focus on the next task at hand: facing the royal court. As she approached the massive double doors that led to the court, they slowly swung open, revealing the grand chamber filled with
the most influential members of the pack.
The room was a mix of opulence and history, with high ceilings adorned with intricate carvings and tall windows that allowed the daylight to stream in, casting long shadows across the polished floor. The court was already assembled, their attention turning towards Kaia as she entered. She held her head high, her steps measured and purposeful, though inside, her heart pounded with
anticipation.
As she made her way towards the throne, her eyes met Markus’s serious gaze. He gave her a
subtle nod of reassurance, and she returned the gesture, drawing strength from his presence.
When she reached the throne, she gracefully took her place beside him, feeling the coolness of the throne beneath her as she settled into it. The weight of the crown on her head seemed heavier
than ever, a tangible reminder of the responsibilities she now bore.
The court fell into a hushed silence as Markus cleared his throat, commanding everyone’s
attention. His voice, steady and authoritative, filled the chamber. “Thank you, everyone, for being
present. I know that many of you are wondering why we have convened so soon. Unfortunately, I
come before you with sad news for our pack.”
A ripple of tension spread through the room, and all eyes were locked on Markus, waiting for the
announcement.
“Queen Tonya,” he continued, his voice softening with respect, “fought a long and brave battle with illness in secret. Unfortunately, she succumbed to it and has left this earth.”
Gasps and murmurs of shock filled the room as the court members reacted to the unexpected news. Markus allowed a moment for reality to sink in before continuing. “Tomorrow, we will hold

her burial ceremony, and it will be declared a day of mourning in all the packs. We must honor her memory and her service to our kingdom.”
The somberness of the announcement cast a heavy pall over the room, the gravity of the loss apparent in the faces of those present. Queen Tonya had been a feared figure, and her passing marked the end of an era. The court members bowed their heads in silent reverence, absorbing
the magnitude of the news.
After the announcement, Markus dismissed the court, and the room began to empty. As the doors closed behind the last of the council members, only a few remained: Azriel, Lora, Kaja, Markus, and Anton. The air in the chamber was thick with unspoken thoughts and emotions, each of them processing the news in their own way.
But before anyone could speak, a soft voice broke the silence. “Excuse me, Markus,” came a
hesitant voice from the far end of the room.
Everyone turned to see Angelika approaching them, her face a mix of anxiety and determination. Markus’s jaw tightened, barely containing his irritation. He forced himself to remain composed, though the effort was evident in the tension in his posture. “Yes, Lady Angelika? And it is King Markus for you,” he asked, his tone controlled but cold.
Angelika hesitated, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and desperation. “King Markus,” she corrected herself nervously, sensing the barely restrained anger in his voice. “I need your
intervention, please.”
Markus frowned, his brow furrowing as he regarded her with suspicion. “And why would that be, Lady Angelika?” he asked, his voice laced with a thinly veiled frustration.
Angelika swallowed hard, her usual confidence faltering under his stern gaze. “We… we are unable to get in contact with my father,” she stammered, clearly distressed. “I wanted to check if he was
sent on any assignment by your Highness.”
Markus’s expression hardened further. He stared at her for a long moment, his mind working
quickly to piece together her words with the situation at hand. “I have no idea where your father is,”
he finally replied, his voice icy. “But when you do find him, make sure he reports to me immediately. He missed today’s council gathering without giving any notice, and that is unacceptable.”
Angelika paled, clearly not expecting the response she received. She nodded quickly, her
nervousness now bordering on panic. “Of course, Your Highness,” she whispered, before turning on her heel and hurrying out of the chamber.
As the door closed behind her, the tension in the room decreased, as everyone took a long breath.
As the chamber quieted down after Angelika’s departure, Anton turned to Azriel, his expression

one of deep gratitude mixed with weariness. “Azriel,” he began, his voice heavy with emotion, “thank you for keeping the matter regarding Tonya’s deeds discreet. If this had come to light… it would have shattered so many lives, and I am grateful for your understanding.”
Azriel met Anton’s gaze with a calm and composed demeanor. “It would have only hurt those who are innocent,” he replied quietly. “There was no sense in making public something that would only serve to damage those who had no part in it. What’s done is done, and now we must move
forward.”
Anton nodded, a solemn acknowledgment of the truth in Azriel’s words. The past could not be
changed, but they still had the power to shape the future.
