Overwhelmed-1
Lora spent the morning with Kaia, doing her best to support her newly crowned friend and
sister-in-law. The event of the crowning ceremony had quickly given way to the harsh realities of
being Queen. Kaia was overwhelmed by the endless stream of advisors, secretaries, and the influx of invitations and commitments that poured in. It had only been an hour into the day’s duties, but already Kaia felt like she was drowning, everyone fighting for her attention.
Lora could see the tension etched on Kaia’s face and tried her best to help. She offered Kaia a
reassuring smile, but the surrounding chaos made it clear that more was needed. The room was a flurry of activity, with everyone speaking at once, thrusting papers and schedules in front of Kaia vying for her attention. Lora was about to intervene when, suddenly, Markus entered the room.
Without a word, he took in the scene before him. His eyes softened as he saw the stress in Kaia’s
expression. In a calm but commanding voice, he said, “Everyone leave, now! I need a word with the
Queen.”
The room fell silent as everyone immediately obeyed his command, filing out of the room with only brief glances at each other. Once they were alone, Kaia’s composure broke, and her eyes filled with tension as she confessed, “I don’t know what I’m doing, Markus. I feel like I’m drowning.”
Markus stepped forward and wrapped her in his arms, kissing her tenderly. As his warmth enveloped her, Kaia felt her energy begin to return. The tightness in her chest started to ease, replaced by the comfort of his presence. He pulled back slightly to look into her eyes and said, “Kaia, don’t forget something super important: you are the Queen, and you are calling the shots. Just because things were done a certain way by the previous Queen doesn’t mean you need to follow in her footsteps.”
Kaia listened, her heart swelling with gratitude.
“In our history, we’ve had queens who were warriors, and others who were omegas. You are a Seer; you have your own strengths and weaknesses. Remember this: you have my full support behind
you, so don’t be afraid to have a voice. Take one day at a time and don’t let others crush you with their expectations.”
Kaia’s eyes filled with happy tears as she whispered, “I love you, and thank you. This is exactly what
I needed.”
Markus smiled at her, a wink in his eye. “You’ve got this. I need to go outside the castle for a bit with Azriel and my father.”
Kaia looked at him with curiosity, her voice barely above a whisper as she asked, “You found him? The Councilman?”

Markus’s expression turned serious, but he nodded. “Let’s see if we pick the right one. We’ll talk
later once I’m back.”
He kissed her one last time before leaving the room, leaving Kaia standing there, gathering her strength. She took a deep breath, straightened her posture, and encouraged herself and her wolf, Sierra, “We can do this!”
With newfound determination, Kaia opened the door, stepping into the corridor where a crowd of people awaited her expectantly. The moment they saw her, they began to speak all at once, a cacophony of voices that threatened to drown her. But Kaia, now firm in her resolve, raised her hand and commanded, “Silence! We are not in a madhouse, and I don’t have multiple pairs of ears to hear everyone at once. Send the Head Butler to my room. The rest of you can wait.”
The crowd of advisors and secretaries exchanged startled glances, but quickly complied, some looking impressed, others slightly wary.
“Lora, please come in,” Kaia added, and Lora followed her into the room.
Once they were inside, Lora broke into a big, bright smile. “Wow, Kaia, you sent shivers down my spine with that tone. You go, girl! Show them who’s boss.”
Kaia chuckled, feeling more at ease with Lora by her side. Their light moment was interrupted by a
knock at the door.
“Enter,” Kaia called out.
Hector, the Head Butler of the castle, stepped inside. He bowed respectfully. “Your Highness, you
asked to see me.”
Kaia nodded, her expression serious but calm. “Yes, Hector. I need a shortlist of three candidates for the position of my Chief of Staff. Do you have any recommendations for me? And before you answer, I want someone competent. I’m not looking to give this position based on looks, connections or favors. I need someone hardworking who can deal with all those scavengers
waiting outside this door.”
