Past Memories-1

Former King Anton took a seat, his shoulders heavy with the weight of his past as he began to speak, his voice tinged with regret and sorrow. “I believe that this is all my fault,” he started, the room falling silent in anticipation of his story. “It all began when I was young. I was attending an event with my father when I met a beautiful girl. There were many beautiful girls around, but what attracted me to her was her kindness. She was genuine, authentic, not trying to impress anyone or capture my attention. From the moment I met her, there was an intense attraction between us, like a flame. I prayed to the Moon Goddess that she would be my mate.”

He paused, his eyes distant as he recalled the memories. “Despite our resistance, we fell in love with each other. We were both convinced that we were fated mates, but as the days drew closer to our coming of age, I became scared. What if she wasn’t my mate? So, I decided to ask her to be my chosen mate. But she, being the special person that she was, told me that it wouldn’t be fair to our fated mates, and we should honor the Goddess’s will.”

Anton’s voice grew softer, filled with a bittersweet longing. “When I reached my 18th anniversary, I had everything prepared to ask her to be my Luna in front of the entire pack. I even cleared half my cupboards for her to move her items in. But when the clock struck midnight, to my shock, I realized she was not my fated mate. Instead, I was mated with Tonya, the daughter of a prominent Councilman. I always knew Tonya, but I never paid her any attention as all my focus was on my

love.”

He took a deep breath, his eyes flickering with pain. “After my mate bond snapped into place with Tonya, with a trembling heart, I looked in my love’s direction. What I saw was disappointment and heartbreak, but also a smile. She approached us and wished me and Tonya many years of happiness and joy and a prosperous reign before leaving with her family.”

The room was heavy with the silence that followed Anton’s words. Azriel interfered in the discussion, “I still don’t see the relevance of this story.”

The former king looked at Azriel with a sad smile before replying, “My first love was no one else than your mother.”

Anton’s revelation hung heavy in the air, his words unraveling a tangled web of emotions and connections that none of them had anticipated. Azriel stood frozen, his mind trying to reconcile the new information with everything he knew about his parents. “My mother… was your first love? How? Impossible!,” he repeated, his voice barely above a whisper, his eyes searching Anton’s face. for any sign that this was some cruel joke.

Anton nodded solemnly, his gaze meeting Azriel’s with empathy. “Yes, she was. I loved her deeply, Azriel. But fate had other plans, and I ended up bonding to Tonya instead.”

Azriel’s mind raced, trying to process the implications. “But… the age difference,” he stammered, still trying to grasp how such a thing could happen. “You’re much older than my father.”

Anton sighed heavily, his eyes distant as he recounted the past. “Your mother was much older than

your father, too. For some reason, the Moon Goddess delayed giving her a mate for many years.

Her parents urged her to take a chosen mate, but she always refused. She once told me that perhaps it was the Goddess’s punishment for not waiting for her fated mate and falling in love with someone else first.”

Kaia listened intently, her mind reeling with the new knowledge. “But why did Tonya hate my

mother so much? In the end you chose her,” she asked, her voice tinged with confusion and pain

Anton’s expression softened, regret etched in his features. “Tonya was a prideful woman,” he explained. “The fact that it was public knowledge that I had a girlfriend, even if that relationship

ended the moment I met Tonya, always bothered her. She saw your mother as a rival, someone

she needed to compete with and prove herself against. But what enraged her even more was that your mother ignored her attempts to engage in those games.”
