A Life for a Life-2

The room was left with only Markus, Kaia, Azriel, Lora, and King Anton. After several long, tense minutes, Markus took a deep breath. “We will not leave this room until we figure out what the fuck just happened.” His voice was filled with determination and pain. He turned to Kaia, his eyes searching hers. “Please, tell us what happened before we arrived.”

Kaia, still in shock, took a seat on a nearby couch, before wrapping her hands protectively around, her abdomen. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself, and began to recount the events. We were going through the ceremonies,” she said, her voice trembling. “The Queen had this dress

prepared for me, an identical dress to hers. She said it was tradition for the Queen to select the

dress for the next Queen to wear during the coronation.” She paused, tears welling in her eyes. “But

then, after we arrived in this Temple, she attacked me with the dagger. She told me that she killed

my parents and that it was a mistake that Azriel and I survived. She said that I don’t deserve you

and that she orchestrated everything to look like an assassination attempt on her life, but because

of the identical dress, I was killed by mistake.”

Markus’s face darkened with each word. “She admitted to killing your parents as well?” he asked,

his voice barely above a whisper, a mixture of rage and sorrow evident in his tone.

Kaia nodded, tears streaming down her face. “She said we Storms were like cockroaches, and that

our entire family deserved to die. I tried to defend myself, but the pain was too intense. And then

you and Lora arrived.”

Azriel clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white. “She admitted it. She orchestrated the

massacre at Stormheart! All the suffering! All the pain! I always tried to find who was behind, but it

was never a valid lead. But it seems that the real puppeteer was the Queen herself and a

Councilman!”

Lora, standing by Azriel, looked at him with concern, placing a comforting hand on his arm.

Markus turned to Lora, as he asked, “What did you mean by the magic you sensed?”

Lora took a deep breath, steadying herself. “I sensed the same dark magic in Queen Tonya that I

felt in Kaia’s body. My wolf is telling me that most probably Queen Tonya made a deal with a black

witch. It seems that the price for the magic was a life for a life. Kaia’s baby was supposed to be the price paid for killing Kaia, but when I healed Kaia and saved the baby, the curse bounced back. It returned to the person who ordered it, claiming a life that was owned and killing the Queen. This curse was designed to take a soul, no matter whose.”

Everyone stood in stunned silence, processing the gravity of Lora’s words. The air was thick with tension and unspoken fears.

Azriel, his voice barely containing his fury, asked, “Why? I just need to know why! All the death! All the suffering!”

After a few moments of painful silence, the former king Anton, his voice heavy with defeat, replied, “I might have an explanation.”

Everyone turned to look at him, waiting for his response. Anton sighed deeply, his shoulders

slumping as he began to speak. “Tonya… she was always ambitious. She wanted what was best for our family, at any cost. But I never realized how far she would go. It all started…”
