A Life for a Life-1

A Life for a Life-1

The tension in the room was palpable. Azriel’s temper snapped as his face contorted with rage. Without thinking, he lunged at Queen Tonya, his eyes filled with murderous intent. But Markus, quick and steady, intercepted him, holding him back with surprising strength.

“Compose yourself!” Markus commanded, his voice hard and unwavering.

“Compose?” Azriel spat, struggling against Markus’s hold. “Did you hear what she said? She murdered my parents!”

Markus tightened his grip. “I heard. But we need to hear everything. We deserve the full truth. Can trust you to hold back a bit longer?”

Azriel’s wild eyes met Markus’s steady gaze. After a moment of intense internal struggle, he nodded, his body trembling with barely contained fury. Lora was quickly by his side, wrapping her arms around him, trying to soothe him with her presence.

Markus turned back to his mother, his voice colder than ice. “Tell us what you meant by that. Did you… Did you orchestrate the massacre at the Stormheart Pack years ago?”

Queen Tonya’s deranged laugh echoed through the room. “They deserved every moment of it,” she sneered. “Too bad these two cockroaches survived,” she added, pointing in disgust at Kaia and

Azriel.

Markus’s voice trembled with disbelief and anguish. “How could you? You’re lying. This can’t be

true.”

Tonya grinned, her eyes glinting with madness. “I don’t regret any of it. You’re all blind not to see

how the Storm family is a threat to ours. It all started with that perfect Storm Luna, the perfect lady, the perfect she-wolf… I feel like vomiting.” She paused, her voice dripping with venom. “I had

to do something. And I asked for help from Councilor St-”

Before she could finish her confession, a horrific, blood-curdling scream tore from her throat.

Everyone froze in shock as blood began to pour from her nose and ears, her body convulsing

violently.

King Anton, still kneeling beside her, cried out in panic. “Tonya! What’s happening?”

But the Queen’s eyes rolled back, and she collapsed to the floor, her screams turning to gurgles as blood filled her mouth.

Lora immediately sprang into action, pushing Anton aside to check on Tonya. Her hands glowed with healing light, but as she tried to stop the bleeding, it became evident that something far

darker and more sinister was at play.

“She’s been cursed,” Lora whispered, her voice filled with horror. “This is black magic.”

Markus, his face ashen, turned to Lora. “Can you save her?”

Lora shook her head. “It’s too late. This curse… It’s designed to take a life, …”

Queen Tonya, writhing on the ground, her life slipping away, managed to whisper, “The price… a life for a life…” Her voice was weak and filled with desperation. With those last words, she convulsed one final time, blood pouring from her nose and ears, before going still. King Anton’s scream of agony pierced the air as he held his dead mate, his cries filled with raw grief and devastation. Everyone else stood in stunned silence, unable to fully comprehend the enormity of what had just transpired.

Markus’s Beta, who had arrived moments, before, quickly took charge. “Move the Queen’s body to the morgue,” he ordered, his voice steady but strained. He directed a few warriors to carry out the task, and they moved swiftly, taking the body away. Once the body was removed, he turned back to the group. “I’ll give you some privacy,” he said, securing the door behind him as he left.
