Lora succeeded in calming Kaia down, but the gravity of the situation was still heavy on both their
minds. “We need to have a plan,” Lora said firmly. “We can’t allow this witch to get away with her
plan.”
Kaia nodded in agreement, her eyes wide with shock. Despite the vision and knowing what was to come, it was still hard to digest and accept that Queen Tonya actually wanted her dead. She took the sage green dress with trembling hands, staring at it as if it were a poisonous snake.
At that moment, the event coordinator burst back into the room, a panicked expression on her face. “Lady Kaia, you are not dressed yet! Please hurry, as before the actual coronation, there are a series of ancient rituals that you need to go through. So please, hurry.”
Kaia nodded, trying to compose herself. “I need to speak urgently with Markus,” she told the event coordinator, realizing in a split second that she had been wrong to keep her visions a secret from him. She had hoped to unmask the true intentions of the Queen in time, but now it seemed she had run out of it. She had tried to mind-link Markus earlier, but her efforts had been unsuccessful. Later, she discovered that it was considered a bad omen for the royal couple to communicate before the crowning ceremony and that they could only see and talk to each other once they reached the
crowning room.
“How convenient,” Kaia thought bitterly. She turned to Lora, desperation in her eyes. “Can you pass a message to Markus? It’s urgent. Tell him the truth in confidence: the dress, the vision. Better to be
safe than sorry.”
“I’m on it. In the meantime… stay alive!” Lora replied, before hurrying out of the room.
Kaia took a long, steadying breath and began to dress in the stunning sage green gown, her stomach twisting in knots. Her wolf, Sierra, was as agitated as she was, growling in her mind. ‘I just want to break the neck of that scheming bitch,” Sierra snarled.
“Unfortunately, the Queen has covered her tracks too well,” Kaia replied silently. “We’re on our own
until Lora can contact Markus.”
“I got your back,” Sierra responded with fierce determination.
As Kaia finished dressing, she took a moment to look at herself in the mirror. The dress was beautiful, no doubt, but it felt like a shroud rather than a coronation gown. Her heart pounded as
she waited for Lora to return, every second feeling like an eternity.
Lora returned breathless, her face set in a grim line. “I couldn’t find Markus. He’s being kept under close watch, and I can’t get to him without raising suspicion. Same for Azriel! And I can’t mind

linking him as well.
Kaia’s heart sank, but she knew they couldn’t give up. “Then we stick to the plan. We go through
with the rituals and the ceremony, but we stay vigilant. We need to be ready for anything
Lora nodded. “I’ll be by your side the entire time. We can get through this together.”
The two women shared a determined look, bolstered by their shared resolve. Kaia felt a surge of strength from Sierra and took comfort in the unwavering support of her friend.
The castle was in full swing with preparations for the crowning ceremony. As Kaia and Lora made their way to the ritual chamber, they encountered various members of the court, each eyeing Kaja with a mixture of curiosity and veiled hostility. Queen Tonya’s influence was evident in the frosty
reception Kaia received.
The ancient rituals were long and intricate, designed to invoke the blessings of the ancestors and the Moon Goddess. Kaia moved through them mechanically, her mind focused on the immediate
threat rather than the sacred rites. As she knelt before the altar, she sent a silent prayer for protection and guidance, feeling the weight of her destiny pressing down on her.
Before she was supposed to enter the last altar, Lora was stopped at the entrance by the royal priests. “Only future royals can enter this sacred space,” they intoned solemnly.
Lora tried to argue, but Kaia squeezed her hand, understanding that they had no choice but to comply. “Very well,” Kaia said softly, leaving Lora behind with her heart trembling in her chest.
