Deal with the Devil-2
Tonya nodded, glancing at Kaia and Lora. Kaia was seated beside Markus, her expression serene, yet Tonya could see the determination in her eyes. Lora, next to Azriel, was similarly composed, her eyes flickering with a mix of curiosity and resolve. Tonya’s smile remained fixed, though her thoughts were far from pleasant.
If these girls believed they had everyone eating out of their hands, they were sorely mistaken, Tonya thought to herself. They were nothing but peasants with no manners or class, She couldn’t fathom what her son saw in Kaia, and as for Azriel, he was a savage. All raw power and brute force. How blind was her son not to realize the potential danger that Azriel could pose to his throne if he ever decided to challenge him?
As the dinner discussion turned to the recent stabilization of the pandemic, Queen Tonya listened
intently, her mind already whirling with thoughts of the future. The table was alive with
conversation, each person contributing their insights and opinions on the next steps.
Markus, his expression serious, finally addressed the group. “Now that the pandemic is under
control, it’s time we dealt with the root of the threat.”
Tonya’s eyes sharpened with alertness. “But the pandemic is gone,” she interjected, trying to mask
her rising anxiety.
Markus nodded. “Yes, the pandemic is gone, but the source of it is still very much alive. We need to prepare for an assault.”
Tonya’s heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean?” she asked, her voice wavering slightly.
Markus’s tone was firm and final. “It means we’re preparing for war, mother. Now more than ever,
I’ll need your support to guide Kaia. It will be a challenging time for all of us.”
Tonya forced a smile, though inside she was trembling. “Of course, son. You have my support.”
But Markus wasn’t finished. His next words made her choke. “Tomorrow, we will have the official
crowning ceremony for Kaia. I know it’s short notice and not with the usual preparation, but I do
not want to go to war before doing this.”
Tonya’s mind raced. If Markus crowned Kala, it would solidify her position and create an
unbreakable bond between them. The royal soul bond meant that if either of them perished, the
other would never take another mate. It was a disaster in the making.
She tried to oppose him, her voice urgent. “Markus, this is a hasty decision. We should take more time to prepare-”

Markus cut her off, his tone resolute. “Mother, I made myself clear some time ago. Kaia is the one
for me.”
After dinner, Tonya returned to her chambers, her heart pounding in her chest. She retrieved her phone with shaking hands and dialled the number again. When the person on the other end
answered, she didn’t hesitate.
“It needs to happen tomorrow,” she said, her voice trembling.
There was a pause before the voice on the other end replied, “The price will be much higher. Are
you sure?”
Tears welled in Tonya’s eyes. She had no choice. “I have no choice,” she whispered, her voice
breaking.
The voice on the other end responded ominously, “Consider it done.”
Tonya ended the call and sank into a chair, her hands trembling uncontrollably. The gravity of what she had just arranged settled over her like a dark cloud. Tomorrow will change everything. She closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face. In her desperation she had just made a deal with the devil himself, and she had set in motion a chain of events that could not be undone.
